Oscar was the quickest to get under way and was never in serious trouble. He won very handily. Ep ran a good race, but could never get up to the leader. The Auditor was •closing fa6t under a drive at the finish. Pacquelin, with a better rider up, might have run a better race. Nancy Dobyns showed a lot of early speed, but gave it up badly in the stretch. The others cut no figure. Oscar, place, 2 to 1 ; show, evens. Ep, place, 2 to 5 ; show, out. Anthracite ran a very fur race and should do still better soon. Honey wood seems to be improving. Scarlet Lily ran disappointingly and will have to improve greatly to win in even fair company. Tragedy, practically unbacked, ran a really good race and nipped out Bangle, who ran a bit short, right on the post. The latter is improving fast and should win soon. Foneda showed great speed, but tired under pressure. The Rush ran a bad race. Zelmet ran well but was shut off several times. His Excellency finished well. The Monk and Atlantus both ran badly. The favorite got off badly and ran a good race but was unable to hold his own with Commonwealth Attorney in the stretch, the latter showing a goed burst of speed at the finish. George B. Cox was unlucky at the start and in the race but came with a wet sail in the stretch and finished strongly. Nellorine showed a lot of early speed but died away in the stretch. The Conqueror finished stoutly and is improving. Longflo can probably do better. Mark Trelawney had a rough journey to-day and will bear watching. Racing on close terms with Hurricane from start to finish, he outfooted the latter in the stretch and won with speed in reserve. Hurricane showed surprising improvement and ran a good race. Clara Meader had no excuses. Windward showed a little early speed. La Grange, off none too well, ran a good race and will do still better.
