She was best and is a speedy filly. Sam Lyons ran a good race and seems to he im | i I ] . proving fast. Pacquelindid fairly well. Great Star, heavily backed, ran disappointingly, though showing both speed and gameness. Nancv Dobyns is a filly of the flash in the pan order. She showed great speed in the first quarter, but died away badly in the stretch. Oricius will do better later on. Ethel Wheat, place, 3 to 5 ; show, 1 to 3. Sam Lyons, place, 3 to 1 ; show, 3 to 2. Isabinda well ridden by Boland, was tiring and all out at the finish, though she seemed to win rather handily. Vain ran a good race but was not as well ridden as he might have been. Tildy Ann, off badly, had too much ground to make up and was quitting at the end. Tolstoi ran a much better race than was expected. Grey Forge apparently ran short. The others Yvere not factors, although Opera Girl shoYved a flash of early speed. Scratched— 17670 Minnie B., 119; 16907 Senator Gibson, 119; 17459 Russelline. 110; 17777Com-monwealth Attorney. 105. Skookum had an easy race of it, but Mr. Matlack took no chances and whipped him all through the stretch. Bellamy was easily second best and was fairly well handled. Bob Salter and Nivoce might have been better ridden. Kingly bolted on the far turn and came very near tipping his rider over the fence. As a race, like most of its kind, it was a farcical affair. Fancy Wood ran a greatly improved race over her last start and came away in the stretch like a good filly. Mattie Bain lasted just long enough to land second money and had nothing to spare at the finish. Menace ran a most disappointing race. Queen oDay showed a lot of early speed but tired badly in the stretch. Bean is a good looker but not up to a race apparently. Sister Kate II. may show better later on.
