Star Chamber was interfered with when Money Back and the other two horses I fell on the turn, but lie overcome this gamely ami beat a cheap lot like a fair colt. Old Mike was wry active at t lie post and ran far out in all breakaways. He showed flue speed in the race, , hut hunga trifle at the end and may have been short. Maryland Reserve went wide on the first turn, but struck a streak of good going down the backstretch and made up a lot of ground rapidly. Mellocule quit in the stretch. Nat Roe bore in on the first turn and may have been the cause of Money Back going down. Both lbinhereand Reginald Hughes fell over Money Back. Jockeys H. Stuart and Tullett were badly shaken up. Grand escaped unhurt. Overweights— Meuelek. 2 pounds. Star Chamber, place, out. Old Mike, place, 3 to 1; show, evens. Winner— B. f, by Strathmore— Lavinia. Went to post at 2 :50. At post 7 minutes. Start good. Won hand ridden ; second driving to the limit; third the same. The Cuban Girl was much the best of this lot, but she ran as though a trifle short and tired badly in the last fifty yards. She is a goodj useful filly. Grace Cup made a good, game showing. Devin drove her hard for the last half mile. Anxious came fast under pressure in the last quarter. Esther Riggs was raced into subjection by The Cuban Girl in the first half, and when the pinch came staggered all over the track. Floranthe showed a flash of early speed. The others plodded along at the same pace all the way. Scratched— 18140 In Shot, 115; 18110 Bugaboo, 109; Barbara B., 106. Overweights— Lady Meise. I pounds. Time, 13, 251, 38, 51, 1 :044, 1 :17i, 1 :454. Winner Br. c. by Iroquois— Ogarita. Went to post at 3:25. At post 2 minutes. Start good. The first three finished in a heap and were driving to the limit. It was a sensational finish and The Monks superior gameness landed him first under the wire. As the race was run Sidbow was undoubtedly the best. He and Scarlet Lily were badly interfered with on the far turn and both were obliged to pull up. This interference made a great difference in the result and was the cause of The Monk being disqualified. Boland had him on the outside all the way and in making the far turn he cut close to the inside, piling Celeritas, Sidbow and Scarlet Lily on the fence. Boland claimed the fouling was accidental, but as the rules are sharp in regards to fouling, the judges could do nothing else but set The Monk back. Celeritas, well handled, ran a good, game race. Ross burned Sidbow up in the run through the stretch and for a wonder the colt showed gameness. Jockey Boland was suspended for the remainder of the present Hawthorne meeting for his foul riding on The Monk. Celeritas, place. 8 to 5; show, out. Sidbow, place, 7 to 10; show, out. Winner— Ch. g, by Racine— Evangeline. Went to post at 4 :05. At post 4 minutes. Start good. Won very easily. The next three were doing their best. Raoivan was at his best, and made his field look cheap. He galloped along under a strong pull all the way, and in the stretch shot to the front like a flash. He is an extra good selling plater. Lady Britannic showed a decided improvement over her last previous race, and ran a smashing good race. Braw Lad showed his usual amount of speed and also his faintheartedness, and at the end was tiring badly. Mark Murat for early action on a fast track. His race was a good one. Yuba Dam is a bad horse. Guess Me is speedy, but has bad legs and she shot her holt early. Sister Fox was beaten away off all the way and can do better. The winner was run up 00 over his entered price by H. Robinson, but was retained. Scratched -17847 Miss Ross, 107; 18081Lady Meddlesome, 109. Racivan, place, evens; show, 1 to 2. Winner— Ch. g, • Forester Prima Donna. Went to post at 4:40. Off at the second break to a good start. Won eased up; second the Kime. Third and fourth were driving to the limit. Thomas Carey found the combination track-to hi:- liking and fairly ran aw;.v from his field. He is a shifty selling plater under light weight hi times. Prince Blazes never could get near Thomas Carey, but he was easily the best of the others. Woodt rices race was a bail one and would hardly stand investigation. The last time he started lie easily heat Thomas Carey. Louisville did fairly well. Holdup ran below the mark. Overweights Tin; Bohhy, 5 pounds. Thomas Carey, place, evens; show, 1 to 2. Winner— Br. c, by Esher— Silk Gown. Went to post at 5 :05. Off at the second break to a good start. Won very easily. It was a terrific drive for second place. Garry Hermann won at his best and turned the tables on Silver-dale in a surprising way. In fact Garry Hermanns race was such an improvement and Silver-dales was so bad compared with their last previous races that it was hard to comprehend. It took Silverdales life to beat the Conqueror. Kid Cox set a terrific pace and naturally tired badly in the stretch. He is a good colt. His Eminence is a slow beginner, and hardly ran his race. Invictus broke flying and showed a smart turn of speed. Garry Hermann, 3 to i ; show, out. Silverdale, place, out. The Conqueror, show, 5 to 1. Kid Cox, place, 24 to 1 ; show, 7 to 10.
