NOTES OF THE TURF. J. E. Madden has purchased of the Prince of Wales the brown colt Sandringham, foaled 1896, by St. Simon— Perdita II., by Hampton, out of Hermione, by Young Melbourne. Sandringham is the full brother of the Derby winners Persimmon and Diamond Jubilee, and was a very highly tried yearling but would not stand training. The terms of the sale are private, but the supposition is a good round sum was paid for the horse. He will go in the stud at Mr. Mad-dens Hamburg Farm, near Lexington, Ky. Previous, b. h, 5, by Meddler— Sunnyside, by Mortemer, out of Sly Dance, by War Dance, the property of A. Featherstone, has been sent to Kentucky and turned out at thcKenmore Farm. He came ea6t with Mr. Featherstones other horses, but bowed a tendon and will be permanently retired to the stud at Kenmore. His breeding and performances should make kim a popular and successful sire. E. C. Tiffin, who trained for Turney Bros, at one time, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Covington, Ky., on Saturday night, June 3, from heart trouble. During his career he handled Dr. Catlett, Tillo and others owned by Turney Bros. P. Dunne has purchased of H. Eugene Leigh the brown colt Silurian, 2, by Belvidere— Virgie D., by Virgil, and bay colt Rhinelander, 4, by Bramble— Mary C. Price of the two was not made public. B. Schreiber, Woodlands Stud, Mo., has purchased of Tom Nepper, for breeding purposes, the bay mare Belle Ward. 5, by Luke Blackburn —Maud Ward. C. T. Patterson has sold to Hiram Pierce the brown colt Free Admission, 2, by Badge— Minnie Williams, on private terms.
