GOSSIP OF THE TURF. A dispatch from St. Louis yesterday to a local newspaper, says : "Pat Dunne will start Star Chamber in the Derby Saturday. All the colts have been worked for the race. Wednesday night on a heavy track Sam Phillips carried his weight, and worked the route in 2:444, after loafing from the quarter to the three-quarter. Dr. Cave worked this afternoon on a better track in 2:42, but it was still slow. Florizar was sent a mile today in 2 :14, and Duke of Melbourne went the route in 2:40. Wounded Knee covered the distance this afternoon in 2:424, with something left. The prob able starters and jockeys in the Derby follow: Sam Phillips, 119 Burns ; Florizar, 119 Van-dusen; Highland Lad, 107 Crowhurst; Dr. Cave, 110 J. Mathews ; Duke of Melbourne, 107 Stevens ; Wounded Knee, 97 Dominick ; Star Chamber, 97 Devin ; Waldeck, 97 Tally.
