The first three were driving to the limit and closely bunched. It was a spectacular finish and some skilful riding was done on 1 the first two horses. Silverdale was the freshest at the end and could have won in another -stride. Rumor had it before the race that Golden Age was short, and judging from this race it J was correct. Bullman got him away flying, and the colt showed dazzling speed, but was tiring at j the end. Silverdale had no excuses. He took the shortest route and ran a good, game race, j Jiminez is a good maiden. He ran a smashing good race under a poor ride. The chances are if Rose had not lost his wits at the end he would have won. Barbara M. moved up into a dangerous position at the head of the stretch, but could not stand the pressure at the end. The other two were always outrun. , Scratched-Rustic Girl. 108; 186223Nancy Dobyns. 108. Corrected weights— Golden Age, 118. ] Golden Age, place, out. Silverdale, place, out. Off at the second break to a good start. Won driving; second and third doing their best. Scales was cleverly ridden and won a lucky race. Knight had the gelding in a good position all the way, avoided all interference, and came with a well-timed rush in the stretch. As the race was run Vohicer should have won. Buchanan rode him miserably. He was pocketed all during the back stretch, and never decided to take up and go around the field until it was too late, then he made a bad mess of it and in the stretch allowed the colt to swerve badly. Miss Shanley hung on longer than usual. The route, however, was entirely too far for her. Considering the difference in weight John A. Morris ran a good race. Prince Plenty could never get near the front. Shrove Tuesday was prominent for about five furlongs, and then retired. Rhine-lander is a bad horse these days. Scratched-157802J. J. T., 108. At post 7 minutes. Start good. Won handily; second ridden out ; third eased up. Cambrian was at his best, cleverly ridden and won like a good race horse. Bangle carried his weight like a gentleman. Boland placed him with judgment in the first part of the journey and waited until the three-furlong post was reached before he made his run. Bangle seemed to sour in the last furlong and finished with his ears pinned far back on his neck. Zoroaster appeared dangerous on the far turn, but Martin was not strong enough to do him justice and when the stretch was reached he let the gelding swerve badly. W. Overton seems to be strictly a sprinter. He showed a fine turn of speed, but retired after going well for six furlongs. Silver Garter was raced into subjection in the first half chasing W.Overton and retired at the same time he did. Corrected weights— Bangle, 121. Overweights— Silver Garter. 3 pounds. Winner— Ch. c, by Rayon dOr— Merry Nelly. Went to post at 4:00. Off at the first break to a good start. Won in a hard drive; second the same. All Gold is a good, game colt and was excellently ridden. Knight took the shortest route, saved his colt cleverly throughout and held him well together when the pinch came. Praetorian had no excuses. He looked all over the winner at the head of the stretch but hung a trille at the end under punishment. Boland also lost more ground than was necessary on the stretch turn. Waxdid well as far as he went but he is a coward and quit badly at the end. Etta got a nasty looking fall on the first turn. Bullman was trying to squeeze through an opening that was not large enough for him. The boy was badly shaken up but not seriously injured. Scratched-18122 Goldone, 112. Corrected weights— Etta, 117. Winner— Ch. f. by Bobby Beach— Faithless. Went to post at 4 :30. Off at the first break to a good start. Won cleverly ; second hand ridden; the next three were driving hard. May Beach, under a clever ride, ran a smashing, good race. Caywood nursed her along in front with judgment when going down the backstretch and stole a march on the other boys on the far turn. The filly seemed to falter for an instant at the head of the stretch, but when Caywood called upon her she responded with more gameuess than she ever Bhowed before. Fly by Night needs a good, strong rider to make him do his best and Buchanan was far from being strong enough to do him justice. The horse is good and can win at once. Boland rode a bad race on Modriue, bobbing all over the colt s back down the backstretch. Limerick ran a good race and finished stoutly. Hermoeo did his best, hut was outclassed. Winner— Ch. g, by Top Gallant— Essay. s Went to post at 5:00. Off at the first break to a good start. The entire field was driving to the limit. Topmast was the best and had to be to win. Vititoe took the longest route possible, but the gelding displayed rare gameness, and from the head of the stretch home finished like a cyclone. Boland was a trifle overconfident, otherwise Patroon would have won. The horse ran a smashing good race and was clear of his field at the sixteenth post. Great Bend opened up a big gap on the far turn, and in doing so was perhaps too much used, and when the pinch came he had nothing left to finish with. Midwood was roughly treated in the stretch, Graziella did well as far as she went and can be marked for early action. Scratched— 18762 Handpress, 112; 18759 Owensboro. 102.
