: ■ ] ] LATONIAS AUTUMN MEKTING. The fall meeting at Latonia will be about the shortest race meeting that has been given around Cincinnati in years. The Latonia management have been brought to realize that one cause of the decline in the racing game here is the fact that Cincinnati has had too much racing in recent years, and also and chiefly that it will be better for all concerned for them to shorten the meetings and increase the purses. They will proceed on that line when they arrange for their fall meeting. As already stated, it will be the shortest meeting that has been given here in years. Secretary Hopper announced Thursday that there will only be thirteen days of racing at Latonia next faU. The meeting will begin on Saturday. October 20, and close on Saturday, November 3. thus taking in three Saturdays. In an effort to secure a better all-round class of horses than have been racing here recently, there will be a decided increase in the purses. In all over-night handicaps 00 will be added, and in all races for the better class of horses, purses of 00 will be given, and there will be no purse of less than 00. The meeting will be run right through. In other words, there will be no alternation of dates with Newport, as the meeting will be too short to make such arrangement advisable. Secretary Hopper, in fact, does not believe in the alternating arrangement. He does not think it a good one for the tracks, and it will not be tried again. The spring meeting at Latonia next season will probably be of about nineteen days duration, giving four Saturdays. At that meeting there will be 00 and 00 for overnight handicaps and purses in races for the better class of horses and purses of not less than 00 for selling platers. There will be the Usual list of rich stakes, with the exception of the Himyar, which has been abandoned. These, with 1 the good purses, will undoubtedly attract to the i Kenton County track next spring a higher class of horses than has been had at the local tracks 1 in recent years. Newport, as well as Latonia. will raise , 1 purses, and next season the BUM of racing at ; Cincinnati will not suffer by comparison with , that at Chicago.— Cincinnati Enquirer.
