Garry Hermann was far the best, was well ridden and in a soft spot. The colt is one of th9 loafing kind, and Caywood had to urge him all through the stretch, althqjigh he had j uleuty of speed in reserve. The Brave is a slow beginner, but finished stoutly and ran a really | mod rare. Searcher was sharply interfered with when going down the backstretch and also he I stumbled and almost fell right at the wire, Dangerline does not amount to much and after be- | ing prominent all the way quit when the pinch came. The same can be said of Hernando. Bat- i tus seems to be out of form. I Scratched -18821 Mauga. 115; 18563Volkmann, 111 : 1*6133 Lasance. 111. g 3 Garry Hermann, place, out. Winner— Ch. c, by Great Tom— Nellie Van. Went to post at 3:00. Off at the second break to a good start. Won easily. The other three were driving to the limit. Advance Guard is surely a cracker jack. He merely cantered under a stout pull all the way and galloped over the leaders in the stretch as though they were tied. Lamachus is ■ handy colt and possesses great gameness. He stood a terrific drive all through the last quarter and outlasted All Gold for second place. The latter was running well in hand all down the backstretch and Knight would have done much better had he gone on with him instead of restraining him. The Bobby was right there and is a consistent performer. Overweights— Lamachus. 14 pounds. Advance Guard, place, out. Lamachus, place, 4 to 5; show, out. All Gold, place, evens; show, out. Start good. Won cleverly ; second and third driving to the limit. J rish Jewel was cleverly ridden and seemed to have been especially prepared for this race. Walsh placed the gelding well during the early staees of the race, and when ready-shot him to the front like a Hash. Ben Chance, badly outrun in the first part of the race, closed a tremendous gap iu the last three furlongs, and had the race been a sixteenth further he perhaps would have won. Euterpe showed the most speed, but the route was too far for her, and in the final sixteenth she quit badly. Maryland Reserve got a miserable ride and did not near run his race. Tim Gainey was prominent for the first three-quarters and then stopped badly. It was a verv ordinary lot. "Overweights— Dr. S. C, Ayres, 4 pounds ; Ben t hance, 1. Winner — B. c. by Terra Cotta— Leonara. Went to post at 4:00 At post 5 minutes. Start good. The first four were close together and hard at it. Russell R. improved suddenly from his last performance and ran a good race. The colt came very fast through the stretch, but at that was lucky to win. As the race was run Yo-hicer should have won. and it was only through Knights carelessness that he was beaten. The colt had a commanding lead and had Knight attended strictly to business he would have won. Insurrection finished fast and ran a good race. Barrack was shut off numerous times during the race and was generally poorly handled. Barney F. showed some speed. Celeritas got a bad ride * and ran a bad race. Tayou was lucky, well ridden and passed Pupil on call in the stretch. Pupil was a bad favorite and ran his oest race, which was not much. Lomond seemed unable to get into his stride in the first part of the race and never got to going strongly until the stretch was reached, and then he made up quite a bit of ground. Delia Ostrand showed some speed, but tired badly iu the stretch. Overweights— Delia Ostrand, 5 pounds. Tayon, place, evens ; show. out. Pupil, place, out. Winner— B. c, by Galore— Minerva. VVunt to post at 5:05. Off at the first break to a good Btart. The first two were driving to the 8 limit. Prince Plenty was always in a good position, and ran a good, game race. Martin rode a clever finish for so light a boy with his hands, and lauded the colt in the very last stride. Wax ran the best race and should have won. He got off poorly and was interfered with several times. • Red Pirate came from a long way back in the stretch. Mhthews rode a bad race on Moroni. It was purely his own fault that he got cut off on the far turn. He was in a good position at the half mile ground and should have made his move then instead of waiting. Brisk showed speed i and ran a fairly good race. Free Hand showed some speed, but not much. Scratched— 18824-Bilter Root, 112. Corrected weights— Free Hand, 101.
