GOSSIP OF THE TURF . Steve LHommedieu, though an Easterner, is well known in St. Louis, and raced a string of horses at East St. Louis and Madison in the winter of 1893-94. He got in trouble at Madison. Judge Swigert issuing an order against the acceptance of his entries. The trouble Hrrew out of two races between 1ncle John, owned by S. A. Hughlett, and Doncas-ter. owned by a Philadelphian, but handled and raced by LHommedieu. The two met in a race at six and a half furlongs one day. and Doncaster, apparently hopelessly beaten a furlong from the wire, came in with a tremendous rush and won by a nose. A few days later t he pair met at six furlongs, and Uncle John won as he pleased. Judge Swigert did not like the two races, and issued the order of banishment.— Exchange.
