WHEELER HANDICAP WEIGHTS. The Wheeler is the most famous and valuable of the western handicaps. From the date of its institution in 1890 it has annually been contested by the best of the western handicap division and has always been marked by sensational racing and the scoring of exceedingly fast time, no mile and a quarter fixed event of this country approaching it in the latter feature. It has never been run in time so slow as 2:07. which amply suffices to win the great majority of mile and a quarter races over other tracks. This year the prospect is for a race equal in interest, excitement and merit to those of years gone by. The weights, made public yesterday by Secretary Howard, have been apportioned with great care, and from the number of horses that have been under special preparation for this race it seems probable that from twelve to fifteen horses will go to the post. Sidney Lucas is the real top-weight and if he wins he will be justly deemed the best three-year-old of the year and one better than was that other grand three-ye;ir-old who won the event in 1893, Morello.
