Icons stronghold is mud and he gained a winning lead in the first three furlongs. He was tiring badly at the end and barely lasted long enough to win. Wood-stick ran a good, ame race but hung a trifle in the last twenty yards, otherwise he might have won. Galantlms had bad racing luck early. It is doubtful, though, if he could have beaten either of the first two with clear sailing. Al Brown seemed to labor in the going and was badly outrun in the first part of the race but made up ground at the end. Fondo did not like the going. First Pop showed a Hash of speed. The field was badly strung out all the way. Overweights — Volkmann. 3 pounds; Al Brown. 1; Icon, 2; Galanthus. 1. Icon, place. 2 to 1 : show, evens. Woodstick, place, 9 to 5; show, 4 to 5. Hermoso reveled in the going and handled his 124 pounds like a true race horse. In heavy going he is an exceedingly hard horse to beat. It seemed at one time in the stretch that he was tiring, but when called upon, he came on again finely. Pupil did his best. Pay the Fiddler showed a lot of speed and passing the half-mile post, was lapped on Hermoso, but tired and quit in the stretch. The others were never within striking distance and were all pulled up at the end. Overweights— Pupil, 2 pounds ; Senator Thompson, 14. Hermoso, place. 9 to 20; show. out. Winner— Ch. c. by Rowland— Frances Nichols. Went tt post at 3:25. At post 12 minutes. Start good for all but Faraday Jr. Won driving to the limit : second the same. Dandy Jim. outrun in the first part of the race, came with a tre-meudons rush at the end. He was a good colt early this spring and seems to be in his best form at present. Sannazaro perhaps should have won. Bullman became a trifle careless on him in the last sixteenth. Still the colt pulled up quite lame, and it would hardly be right to say Bull-man threw the race away under these circumstances. Jiminez ran a good race. So did Robert Waddell. under a miserable rido. This colt is good and can win with a competent rider up. Gold Badge was prominent for about three furlongs and then retired. Rio de Altar ran his race at the post. Dandy Jim, place. 6 to 1 ; show, 2 to 1. Sannazaro. place, 2 to 5 ; show, out. Jiminez, show, 6 to 5. 1 O/l . Won in a drive ; second and third were also hard at it. Annowan ran a phenomenally good race. He was not in his stride at the start and was also interfered with when Tremble fell. Consequently when going down the back stretch he did not appear to have a chance to win, but Rose persevered with him and waited until those in front tired and then made his move. Annowan was game and when the pinch came responded like a true thoroughbred. Hold Up stopped and came again in the stretch and will be hard to beat when next out in the same company. Intriguer showed a lotof speed but tired badly at the end. Hosi was perhaps short. Durwad had a good workout for a jumping race. Tremble stumbled and fell on the first turn but no serious damage resulted from the fall. Overweights— Annowan, 2 pounds. Annowan. place. 4 to 5; show, out. Holdup, place, 2 to 1; show, evens. Winner— B. g. by Blazes Bettie Prince. Went to post at 4:30. At post 11 minutes. Start good. Won driving mildly ; second fully extended. Prince Blazes awoke with a start and ran a surprisingly good race. The last time he started at Washington Park, in the mud with Yititoe up. he could not get out of his own way. Walkenshaw was well handled and ran to his best form. Frangible held third place safe all the wtiy. Lomond showed speed. Bishop Roed seems to be of little or no present account. Owens-l oro ran a fair -ort of a race. Overweights— Frangible. 3 pounds. Prince Blazes, place. 24 to 1: show, svene. Walkenshaw. place, 1 to 2 ; show, out. Time. 124. 254, 51*, 1 :21;, 1 :51. Winner— Ch. g. by Aloha- Blanche. Went to post at 5 :05. Off at the tirst break. Start fair. Won cleverly after an early drive. There was sharp action behind the winner. Aloha II. won a lucky race. He loafed in behind the leaders, who were bumping and interfering with one another, until the stretch was reached, then be went to the front cleverly on the outside. Norford was the best and should have won off by himself. He got away all tangled up, and was much used on the first turn in trying to get to the front. Greenock hung to Norford like a leech all down the back stretch and made the Baldwin colt stop. Norford interfered with The Unknown on the far turn and also almost threw Greenock over the fence at the head of the stretch. He was certainly entitled to be disqualified. The Unknown showed fine speed, but was hardly ready. He will be a hard horse to beat in his class hereafter. Greenock was right there all the way and pulled up sound. Aloha II.. place. 4 to 1; show, evens. Norford, place. 1 to 3; show. out. The Unknown, show, evens. Greenock, place. 1 to 3 ; show, out.
