Bard of P Avon was given a good ride but was lucky to win under the circumstances. Cherries beat th« Hag two lengths but Maher rushed her too much. Had he saved her for the finish she would 1 probablv have lasted long enough to win. Edgefield may have been the best horse in the race. • He was knocked back to eighth place and moved up fast but was interfered with and thrown back again. He moved up a second time and was agaiu thrown back. Then he had to go all around the field in the stretch. Shaw was easing him up in the last hundred yards. Queen Carnival ran a good race from a poor start. Prince Stonemouth showed speed for a quarter. Bard of Avon, entered for 00. was bid to §1,200 and bought by Charles Ellison. Mayor Gilroy went right up to Unsightly and had her beaten in the . stretch, but Shaw took matters too easy, and in the final drive Unsightly was gamest. Precursor ran to his form. Lady Schorr was outrun in the early part of the race but closed strongly and would have been second in the next striae. Dublin appeared to be the best but was given a poor ride by Turner and also met with interference all through the first quarter. Termless was s tried at waiting, but will not do in such company. David Garrick might have had , •a winning chance with a good ride bu the fall of Cyrano scared Maher and he went the overland route. The colt ran kind and true to-day. Pink Coat ran well for a horse just off the cars. He led to the sixteenth and was fighting it out the finish. Compensation ran a good race to-day but quit in the final drive. Einus was outclassed.
