The horee gradually made up ground thereafter and got clear of his field in the last eighth but had to be bUBtled out at the end to stall off Little Elkine strong bid. He im- roved quickly and ran a splendid race. He closed up fast and strongly In the last eighth, f antasy came with a rush at tne end after making up ground in the last quarter. W alsh was too weak to do the latter justice or else he would have won. Maggie Davis bad enough when a furlong out and just lasted long enough to gat her head ever the line in front of Ben battle. The latter finished strongly and altogether ran a good race. Uiedia race was rather disappointing. She tired badly in the run in. Haviland was outpaced throughout. Overweights Dledi, 1 pound. He was messed about in the early part of the race. Preetorius showed speed for five far-longs but fell away beaten when the rub came. Huzzah waa right there for five eighths.
