NOTES OF THE TURF. This is tha last day of racing at Bt. Louis for the year 1901. Presumably the majority of the horses now at the Fair Grounds will be taken to Louisville. It is understood that the racing season at Bt. Louis has been reasonably successful in view of all the adverse circumstances growing out of the ao-c ailed war with the Western Jockey Club. Perhaps the situation may be cleared up by the opening of the racing season of 1992 so that owners who could not afford to race there this year can do bo next year. At any rate it is to bs hoped bo. "Bob" McMillan, owner of Lyror Bell, and P. Gorman, owner of Erema, have placed ,000 each in the hands of Secretary Hopper as a wager on the match race which has been arranged for Saturday at Latonia between the horses mentioned. They will carry equal weights, 101 pounds. Knight will ride Lyror Bell and Jackson Erema. The race will be at six furlongs and will bo decided between the third and fourth races. There is but one condition and that is that the track be fast. George C. Bennetts splendid colt Abe Frank Ib reported to be seriously sick at Memphis. It is doubtfal if a batter two-year-old was raced in the United States this year and it is to ba sincerely hoped that he will recover without impairment of his great 3paed and stamina. A carload of horses reached Oakland last Friday from Hawthorne. Charles Sanders, brought along Headwater and Legal Maxim Linnell had Goal Buuuer, Olintaus, Pencil Ma and one other in the car. He also brought along Max Bsndix for Dan Lynch. Bedfern, the lightweight jockey, will ride for Burns and Waterhouse in California this season andSpsncor will b their hsavyw eight.
