LandKEilDE RACING. j Mud larks wero much in evidence yesterday at Lakeside, horses that ran bast in the soft going finishing first in every race. The track was sloppy, bnt in some spots toward the outside rail had dried ont somewhat- Betting was hsavior than un Monday and the crowd was as large as i usual. The principal race of the day, the fourth, a dash of ono mile, was won in hollow fashion by Lennep. She took the track at flag dip and simply spreadaagled hor field, winning by eight lengths from Lucien Appleby, which beat Miracle II. a neck for second place. The last named closed up on Lncien Appleby in the last quarter, bnt faltered in the closing strides. j Corinne Unland proved to ba the best of a poor lot of youngsters in the days opener, a scramble of sir farlongs for two-year -olds. Crescent City led by a fair margin to the stretch, where Corinne TJnland, under a good ride by Coburn, closed up on him fast and, in a ding-dong finish, beat him ont by a short head. The Stewardess was third five lengths back. The second raca, a split of the first was taken by Autumn Leaves, which won easily by two lengths from Dake of Connaught af tor a short brusn with him in the last eighth . Bragg was only beaton on the po3t by a head by Duke of Connanght for second money. Ho was given a shabby ride and allowed to fall too far out of the race. Golden Glitter ran far below expec. tations. Hag Tag could not extend himself freely in the going. The third race, a dash of one and one-eighth miles, wont to The Joffjraon, which closed up fast in tke last eighth and beat out Farmer Bennett by a koad after a spirited nish neat to the inside rail. Istbay finished third a length away. He seemed all ovar the winner when a furlong out but huug in the closing strides. Edna Bergan ran well for seven furlongs. The fifth race, a six farlongs dash, brought a number of good sprinters to the post, Harry Herendean being backed down at post time to an 8 to 5 favorite. The winner turned up in Aaron, which should have won his last two races. Bummer lod by two lengths when turning into the stretch but along about the last eighth post Aaron moved up fast and after a sharp drive for a sixteenth of a mile drew away in the closing strides and won by a length, Bum- mer beating Braw Lad three for second place; Harry Herendean could not negotiate the sloppy going and gradually fell away beaten after the first quarter had been run. The finale was an easy thing for Banish, which closed up with a rush in the last quarter and won by five lengths from Baird, which bsat Little Elkin three for second place. Baird appeared like he was going to make a runaway race of it when going down the backstrotch, but weakened after turning for homo. Ken-tacky Babe did not appear to relish the going. Charles D. ran a poor race. M. H. Tichenor and Co., have bought of B. Bradley the two-year-old Miracle II. at the reported price of ,500.
