Last Sunday was a busy day among the horsemen at New Orleans, as will be seon from the following taken from the Picayune of November 25: "A visit to the Fair grounds yesterday reminded one of the sceneB at Montgomery Park, Memphis, on a Sunday procoding the running of the Tennessee Derby. Fully 1,000 lovers of the thoroughbred were out to Bee the horses work and look over the many improvements made on the course. It was workday for a number of stables, and the track was fairly alive with racers from early in the morning until well on toward noon hour. Of course, the candidates for the Inaugural Handicap on the . opening day were given tho most attention, and the showing they made in their try-outs were freely discussed. "George Arnold was among the first to appear. He had a good-sized lad in the saddle. After being trotted around the track a couple of times he pulled up at the half-mile pole and was rubbed down. He waB then sent seven furlongs in 1 :38, the fractions being ,26, 40, 54, 1:09,1:23,1:38. "Burnie Bunton, with a light boy in the saddle, was worked a half in 53. She was kicked out all the last furlong. Tom Kingsley, with Jockey Harshberger up, waB sent through the stretch in 25i. Bummer went a quarter in 25 , He was sore whan he pulled up. "Maggie Davis was worked five furlongs in 1:06. This was good work Yor her, as. she will not do her best in the morning. "If You Dare was sent three-eighths in 39. Ranco went the same distance under a pull in 38. He showed lots of spaed and was fighting for his head all the way. Mint Sauce was given slow work. He looks big and fat, but it may be that he likes to run that way. "Steve LHommadiaua pair, St. Cuthbert and The Rush, were worked together. They went six furlongs in 1:20, with St. Cuthbart finishing about a length in front. The fractional time was 13, 25, 88, 52, 1 :05, 1 :20. Lou Woods, with about 90 pounds up, went three-quarters in 1 :19. Her stable companion, Eva Rice, went the fastest six furlongs shown during the morning. She was worked later on, when the hot sun had dried the track up some. She covered the three-quarters in 1 :18. "Jack Keene had all of his older division out and gave them good, stiff work. Braw Lad, the pride of the stable, with a big boy up, broke from the six furlongs post and worked to the stand. The fractions by furlongs were : 12, 25, 38, 52, 1:05, 1:20. He carried fully 125 pounds and was eased up all the last eighth. Little Jack Horner, with a small lad in the saddle, worked right after him. He worked in about the same time. Miss Conrad worked in 1:21. She also had her weight up, She had plenty of early speed, but tailed off at the end and finished out the three-quarters in 1:21. Kaena is training a good-looking yearling filly for Ed Tipton. He had her out and she want a furlong in 12. She is by Rey del Bey Marsha. "Dave Waldo worked three yearlings an eighth, one by Sayre finishing in front in 12. "Senator Beveridge, accompanied by Velma Clark, was sent a half. The mare had the most speed for the first three-eighths, but the colt easily disposed of her in the final farlong. Their time was 12, 24, 38, 52. "Euterpe was sent three-quarters early in the morning, whan the track was bad, in 1 :20, This was very good work. Petit Maitre was sent the same route in 1 :19. He worked along about noon. "Henry Bimonscrack Janowood, with a small colorod lad in the saddle, was kicked out a half in 55 1-5. SimonB was waving him on all the way. FremontJ81oan brother to Tod is here with a stable of cheap selling-platers. Among the lot ia the Hutchinson cast-off, Wiedemann. Fremont will sell out next spring and go to Russia, where he will Join his brother Cash. Max Hirsch, who, four years ago, was one of the best light boys around New York, will ride jumpers hereltniB winter. "Easy Going" Fred Warner, wholhandlsd the jumper Miss Ransom -along toward the end of the meeting last spring, showed up a promising "leaper" in Chiffon. With Jockey Hennessey in the saddle she went one turn of the field and cleared the obstacles like a bird. She was about the best jumper that showed during the morning. "Tom Nepper had his recsnt purchase, Jim Nap, out on the road. He is freshening the horse up. Jim Nap was a good performer at the Latonia meeting."
