NOTES OF THE TURF. The vanguard of the anticipated influx of horses and ownerB from Bennings arrived at New Orleans last Friday. Jockey Otto Miller will ride as a free lance. J. H. Carr and H. F. Schultz each brought six horssB, and Holtman and Co. three, including the jumper, Dr. Fair. Barney Bchreiber has arrived at San Fran-cieco. He sayB he has a grand looking lot of yearlings by Sain, Balgowan and Service at his Woodlands farm. He denies that he has engaged Dngan to do his riding. He etill has hopeB of bringing Cochran to the coast. Postillions recent victory at New Orleans was a surprise to his owners who thought he had no chance to bat Dolce Far Niente and allowed him to run loose. It is said the rail birds all had a bet down on the Morris colt. Monnette, a chsatnut horeo by Wordsworth-Esplanade, broke his leg yesterday morning at New Orleans while being schooled over the steeplechase course. Five of the sis winners on the opening day at New Orleans were horses that had been only recently reinstated by the Western Jockey Club. Mr. Edward Corrigan will arrive at New York on the Majestic next Wedneeday from England. Thomas Magee is also on the same boat. The California papers speak highly of Spencers work in the saddle His recent victory on Lode Star met with much praise. . Burns and Waterhouse will shortly Bell a dozen of their horses that they now bavo in training.
