Tho stable of Col. James E. Pepper, with Whiskey King and othsr good onoe ; that of Col. W. B. Simmons, with Colonel Bill and pthais, and Howard McCorkle, with Barouche and others. The latost jockey to arrive at New Orleans is li. Smith, who went there from Bennings. Smith rode in good form at the metropolitan tracks during the season jnst past. It was he who had the mount on James B. Eosmos Toddy whan that horse ran third in the Suburban, Smith will do the riding for 2. J. and J. H. Hutchinson at the New Orleans meeting. Bob Baker, the colt declared ineligible to race on West3rn Jockey Club tricks and ordered scratched from the Inaugural handicap last Thursday, has been doolarcd in good standing on tho strength ol a wire from Secretary Euhl. Bondolle, a Ally owned by L. A. Buiseon and Co., entered in the second race last Friday, was declared out for the same reason. Brcod maros from tho Pueblo ranch of J. Nagloa Burk were sold for a Bona last Tuosday at San Francisco. Jnnot, N dam of Crescendo and Bellicose, being secured by Charles Fair for 51,000. Burns and Waterbouse paid 00 for Amida, the dam of Impromptu. The others brought from 5 to 00, ozcept Dura, for which B.de B. Lopez paid 5300. Henry CI. Ziegler of Cincinnati has nominated his yoarling chBtnut colt by Ornament Nellie C. and his two-year-old colt Herons for the Great Bapublic Stakes of 0,000 to be run for in 1904 at Saratoga. The Ornament colt is now at Lexington Ky., and is said to b one of tho best of the year. Chief Steward Rees intends to be strict with the jockeys at New Orleans, especially when they try to boat the barrier. He fined Coburn 5 last Friday on this Bcore and warned him that a repetition meant a thirty days suspension. Lyne waB warned for the same offense. J. B. Beapass, Jos Yoager, Tom Davis, W. H. Sayres, Bob McMillan and a nnmber of other horsemen left Cincinnati yesterday for Lexington to attend the Ward and Shanklin sale of thoroughbreds. Paul Bgbart has decided to rest up his good colt Paul Croy ton, by Qaickllma Belle Baden. He has bean sont down to Lexington from Cincinnati and will be turned out for a couple of months.
