MEMPHIS STAKES. J Daily Racing Fossi takes pleasure in calling iho attention of owners to the liBt,of valuable Stakes proffered by tho New Memphis Jockey . Clnb for 1902. They are identical with those of-, last spring, with the oxcaptions that theondow-1 ment of tho Cotton Steoplecnaso has been ; increased from 8700 to the more enticing figure of ,CC0, and the Hotel Gayoso Stakes for , throe-yaar-olds supplants last years Turf Con- 5 gross Stakes. Secretary Macfarlan views this stake with considerable favor, having designed it as a try-ont for the Kentucky Derby. Its conditions are so framed that the winner will not incur a penalty for tho big Louisvillo event, and "threa-year-olds hot in tha Tennessee Derby can in this stake ba afforded a chance to meet its winner. The list new offered embraces the Gaston Hctol Stakes, Ardelle Stakes and Memphis Stakes, for two-year-olds; the Hotel Gayoso Stakes, for threa-y ear-olds; the noted Montgomery Handicap, Peabody Hotel Handicap, Tennessee Brewing Co. Selling Stakes and the Cotton Steeplechase, for three year-oldB and upward. All of these will ba run off at the spring maotiag of 1902. In addition, the Tennessee Derby of 1903 and the Tennessee Oaks of the same year will closa for entries on the samo date, January 4, 1902. The conditions of the various stakes are set forth elsewhere in this issue, and all are heartily commended to the patronage of owners east and west.
