ENGLISH TUBF STATISTICS. American breeders will read with great interest the appended tabulandUd statement showing the leading twalve stallions on the English turf in 1901. The great preponderance of tho Galopin blood will be especially notid. The statement includes all races on tho English turf from March 25 to the end of the season at Manchester. Irish and French meetings are not included, and only flat races arc dealt with. In the event of a dead heat not being run off each horse is credited with half tho amount of the stakes, and in tho appended list of tho first dozen svallions of the year an asterisk is employed to denote such an occurrence, while tho figures in the first column indicate the number of racas which have been won by the hoisos against whose names they appear. 8ince St. Simons first appearance aa a sire, Ms career has boon one unbroken success, Between 18S9 and the present time his winnings have never besn bslow five figures, and the grand total for the thirteen yaars amounts to no loss than 116,121 15s., made up as follows: 1839, 14,283; 1890, 12,799; 1891, 15,893; 1892, j6,133; 1893, 33,39; 1894, 42,091; 1895, 30,169; 1896. 59,740; 1897, 12,511; 1898 15,210; 1899, 17,505; 1900, 54,450, and 1901, !8,671 15s. From these flgnras it will be sean that his record year was 1893, when St. Frusquin and Persimmon carried off all the honors for him, while in 1892 La Fleche assisted materially, and last year Diamond Jubilee was mainly responsible for his grand total. For six successive years prior to 1897 he handed the list of sires, but in that year the Pride of Welbeck had to give way to Kendal, and in tho following seas an ho fell to sixth p sition to Galopin. The season of 1899 saw him third to Orme, and then, as already stated, he once more assumed the leading place, which he continues to hold. Not only does 8t. Simon stand first in the list, but he has also tho distinction of having two of his progeny in the select half dozen "who this year can claim over 10,000, viz., Flor-izel II. and St, FruLquin. St. Simons winnings are split up between sovanteen horses, who have ners being William tho Third, whose-flvo victories included the Esher StakeB and the Hurst Park Lennox Stakes, and Pietsrmaritzburg, who socured the Jockoy Club Stakes at Now-market. To Lad as, who stands second in the list, is credited the largest individual winner, Epsom Lad contributing 18,127 toward a total of 27,-281, his wins including the Princsss of Wales Stakes at Newmurkot, tho Eclipse Stakes and the Kempton Park Stakes. Lavengro haB also provod very useful to the eon of Hampton and Illuminate, four wins, averaging over l,C0O each, standing to his. credit. At the b?ginning of tho season Florizel II. did so well that for a time he was at the hoad of affaire, this being mainly due to the victory of Yolodyovski in the Derby. As the season wore on, howaver, he fell back somewhat, and now has to ba content with being a very good third with 13,982, contributed by nine horses, who bstween them carried off twenty-four races, half a dozen of them reaching well into four figures. romtlrpositlua is oiisandpied by Gullinule, to whom Gamo Chick with six wins, Bella Gal-lina and .Mount Prospect have proved most useful, and enob!ed the son of Ieonomy and Moorhen to exceed his previous best of 1898 15,968 by 1,756. Thero is another big gap batwesn the last mentioned and St. Frusquin, who is fifth in the list with eighteen wins, amounting to 11,362, chief honors falling to Lovcite, who won tho Prince of 77ales Stakes at Goodwood, and the Goodwood Cup winner, Fortunatus. Ayrshire has returned to something like his position of 1897 and 189S, he beiDg the only other sire who has five figures to his name. No favor than eighteen of his progeny have bson first past the judges, the wins averaging two apiece and amounting to 10,445. Although he has only throe winners, Galopin, thanks to Merry Gal and Aida trie winner of the Ono Thousand Guineas Stakes, haB 8,755 to his name, Donovan, with twenty wins, mostly of small calibar, running him very closo with 3,130. Carbine wound up the soason by carrying off the Manchester November Handicap through Carabine, and-thereby has a big lift into ninlh place, with 100 less than Donovan. Boyal Hampton, Matchmaker and Queens Birthday are next in order of merit, all eiccoding 7,000, tho laBt mentioned having to depend largely on Santoi for his total. lair glass experiences a big fall, and from second place lest yoar has to be contont with baing ono of the ten whose progeny has secured batwaou 6,000 and 7,000, the samo remark applying to Melton, while Common and Orme also appear well down in the list. It is interesting to point out that the aggregate winnings of the twelve leading sires amount to 166,938 15s., as against 171,226 10s. last year and 173,597 15b. in 1899. There is little else calling for special comment here, and the appended figures may be lsft to Bpeak for themsolves. St. Simon, b Galopin St. Angela, by King Tom. Horse, Ago, B. . a. Horsa, Age.
