by Plaudit Bonnie Lou by Enquirer EnquirerChestnut Chestnut filly by Owas Vodka by Spendthrift The Thoroughbred Record Commenting on the foregoing sale Judge Joseph J Burke says in an article published in Morning Telegraph It operates against the business suc ¬ cess of any breeding establishment to sell its annual produce to any one or two turfmen unless the youngsters are in turn parceled out and resold BO as to go into other racing stables stablesOf Of course the best tried of all the youngsters will do battle for the stakes as the dates come on for their decision and equally of course there will remain in the stable all but one or perhaps two the remainder never perhaps having the chance to run for the reputation of their birthplace for the simple reason that some one or two stand out several lengths superior to the others othersNow Now if those thirty yearlings had gone into half a dozen or more different stables they would bo constantly meeting each other the host would win and the honors divided One day Mr Smiths colt by Esher might win the next day another colt by Esher owned by Mr Jones might capture the stake because of a bit of better luck at the start or in the course of the race or through better riding ridingThe The idea is that with tho product of a breeding farm divided up between some of tho best stables the chances of enhancing tho reputation of that farm aro hotter than if all tho yearlings had gone into one persons hands handsAlready Already there is talk of organizing syndicates to purchase many of tho yearlings which would como in the market and predictions are mado that tho groat auctioneering firms of tho country will find a groat falling oil in their business This talk savors so much of rainbow chasing that no one around Now York is worrying about tho threatened decline in business businessTho Tho bulk of the yearlings bred for tho turf will continue to be sold in open market where compe ¬ tition between tho groat men of the turf will serve to make those yearlings realize fancy prices pro ¬ vided they aro bred right rightAlready Already friends of Mr Camdcn say that ho has mado a mistake in soiling hs yearlings in a limited market and not in an open one There is no doubt that the Eshers would have averaged much more at auction than Messrs Schorr and McCafforty paid for them but there wore some by the untried stal ¬ lion Handsome and they were nearly certain to so cheap notwithstanding that Handsome is ason of Hanover backed up on the dams side by Cinder ¬ ella who produced no less than seven winners beginning with tho ordinary racer Foreigner by Fonso and then giving us Ferrier by Falsetto Handsome by Hanover Hastings by Spendthrift Chelsea by Longfellow Plaudit by Himyar and Glonheim by Hanover
