Lady Kent was away with the leaders and Kelly rated her carefully to tho stretch, saved ground at all the turns and eame away without trouble in the final furlong. Miss Chapman ran a good race, was off all tangled up and had to go around her horses to get up, caught Himtine tiring at the end and beat him out in the closing strides. Himtine was off poorly and closed a big gap in the first quarter but faltered at the end. His bad legs probably bothered him when the pinch came. Irish Jewel finished strongly. The Mirage was off running, but tired badly. Basileus was practically left. Lorina came with a rush in the final farlong, caught Sly Boots tiring and got up in the last few strides. Sly Boots showed the most early speed and was hustled along all the way. Her improvement was sudden. Sir Gallant was outrun for the first half, closed up strongly and got third place in the last few strides. SDringwater showed early speed, but tired. Bill Massie showed the most early speed and Steele let him rate along about his business. He was under pressure all of the last quarter and outgamed Uledi when it came to a drive. Uledi needed this race. He caught Bill Massie at the furlong post and had a heads advantage when a sixteenth from home, but tired in the last twenty yards while Bill Massie came again. Brief got a bad ride. Minder made two or three different runs with her and she came strongly when it was too late. Mint Bed weakened in the last sixteenth. Rossfames rider had his face caught in the barrier and was nearly swept out of the saddle at the start. Overweights Mint Bed, 5 pounds. Bill Massie, show, ont. Brief, show, out. Won easily ; second driving. Optima caught Gerda tiring and came away without much effort in the last furlong. Gerda, was away lucky and free from all interference, but was tiring fast at the end. Caolana finished strongly and would have been second in another stride. Lady Gallantry bled and fell just after passing the half mile post and Lome, Exapo and Enhance tumbled over her. Bellcourt and Obstinate Simon fought it out all through the stretch, Secundus joining them in the last sixteenth, and Bellcourt lasted longest under a hard drive. She won on her own courage, Croghan being of little help to her. Secundns came on verjr strongly and would have won with a stronger finisher in tho saddle. Obstinate Simon tired in the closing strides, the weight telling on him at the end. The Way tired from setting tho pace. Picador wbb messed about all the way. Sauber stumbled at the first jump and was hard ridden all the way. Arius did not run his race. He jumped poorly and stumbled a couple of times. Terry Ranger was given an easy ride.
