8 e c 1 1 1 J 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 NOTES FROM SARATOGA. Saratoga. N. Y., August 6. With a view of abating a nuisanco a village ordinance goes into effect next Friday which provides for a tax of 50 on the tipsters. t A New York multi-millionaire, name withheld, has commissioned a prominent trainer to have a veterinary surgeon pass upon the soundness of the horses in the Clarence Mackay string, with the view of purchasing the entire lot when put up at auction, August 12. This gentleman will go into racing on a magnificent scale. A match race between Articulate and Herbert, the two most brilliant performers in the mud during the last decade, is being talked of, the track to be muddy. Honolulu was bid up to ,500 today by Sidney Bender, owner. Andrew Miller, however, retained him with an additional advance. R. T. Wilson, Jr.s, Carbuncle carried a 0,000 commission to victory for his owner. The last sixteenth of the Spinaway Stakes took eight seconds, which accounts for Dusters victory. Sckorrs beautiful filly appeared a certain winner when a furlong out, but tired in the heavy going, and expert opinion generally concedes her ability to easily reverse this running on a good track.
