Alsono was .: much the bet, forced the pace from the start, easily shook off Remorse, which essayed to follow him, and drew into a loner and winning lead on the far turn, winning in impressive fashion and cantering. 1 Remorse must have stepped into a holo, as he stopped suddenly at the half and fell back, but came again very strongly. Slipthrift ran as if short, broke slowly, closed a big gap, came with a rush in the stretch and tired right at the end. Torchlight loomed up prominently on the turn, but retired beaten when straightened for the wire. Numeral quit in the stretch. The others were outclassed. George W.Jenkins trailed under restraint for two miles and forged to the front with great ease on the flat and outclassed the field at the weights. Rising Sun, a high-class steeplechaser, was skillfully ridden and under a choking pull for the first two miles, but lost many lengths through stumbling on the far turn while going the last time around, then quickly recovered and put up a game finish. Rowdy fenced poorly and was short and greatly handicapped by bis amateur jockey. Clasher showed the way for two miles, fenced well and held on gamely, and should win. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Irish Lad broke in motion on thn outside in the best going, gradually improved his position and turning into the stretch close to the rails finished with tremendous speed and was beBt even though lucky and skillfully handled throughout. Dazzling, appropriately named, broke flatfootod, was forced to pull up in the first sixteenth and was interfered with repeatedly by Girdle. She still forced a terrific pace and apparently had the race won when in the stretch, should have won and is a great filly. Blue Ribbon, steadily improving and favored by the cuppy going, closed up very strongly at the and. Mizzen, away badly and crowded by Girdle and forced to pull up, finished stroDgly. He has contracted feet and will favor mud or soft going. Africander, nearly left, closed a tremendous gap. Astarita was carried hopelessly wide on the stretch turn by Girdle. Artvis was crossed and interfered with on the far turn and this practically destroyed his chances. Girdle possesses phenomenal speed and has worked three-eighths in tbirty-four seconds flat, but was sadly misused in the race. Sir Voorhies waB bumped into and forced to pull up by Girdle and is believed to have broken a rib. Irish Lad, show. 2 to 5. Dazzling, show, 6 to 5. Blue Ribbon, show, 3 to 1. Mizzen, show, 1 to 4. Winner Ch. c, by Hermence Katy of the West trained by J. A. McCormack. Went to post at 3:45. At post 4 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second the same. Hermis was carried wide on the first turn and pocketed to the stretch turn, where he was compelled to go wide, but wore the leaders down in the stretch and won going away fast and was best. Gold Cure, evidently favored by the cuppy going, finished very strongly and ran a high class race and is a much improved horse. Cunard ran the best race of his career this year and displayed brilliant speed and stamina. Hyphen was a prominent contender until in the last hundred yards, where the big weight anchored him. Whiskey King lacked in condition. He is a phenomenally fast horse, but a mile is about as far as he can get when in the best company. The other two were never serious contenders. Shrine closed up ground throughout and finished very strongly. Epidemic followed the fast pace set by John A. Scott closely and finished gamely. Claude was swerving badly at the end and was disqualified. Alice Cary ran a good race and held on in game fashion. John A. Scott and Nigrette raced each other to a standstill and both were tiring almost to a walk in the last sixteenth. Orloff, away badly and repeatedly interfered with, closed a big andap and was much the best but had no chance. Scratched 34162Eva Russell, 1C9; 334671 George W. Andy Williams was tiptoed and under a hard drive to get up, but came away very strongly in the stretch and outclassed the field. Lee King, in great form, fresh and possessed of brilliant early speed, looked like making a runaway race in the first part, but tired at the end and should win soon. Paul Creyton followed the fast pace closely and gamely withstood Cogswells challenge at the end. The latter was olosing up strongly. Handicapper quit after going the first seven furlongs and Vitellius was never a contender. Scratched 21146 Monaco Prince, 116. Lee King, show, 1 to 2. Paul Creyton, show, 7 to 5.
