Whittier broke slowly, went around the field on the turn and made good with a brilliant stretch run and -was easily best. St. Finnan, particularly favored by the soft going, forced the pace from the start and held on gamely. Belvino ran well, but was tiring in the last sixteenth. Setauket, crowded out at the start, closed a big gap, finished with a ruBh and is strictly a mudlark. Grand Opera was prominent to the stretch, where he succumbed to his weight. Biserta made up much ground and was coming strongly at the end. The Black Scot went well. Wealth failed to stay after being crowded and messed about. G. Whittier, show, 6 to 1. Away badly and carried wide on the first turn, pocketed and interfered with repeatedly, when, with clear sailing in the last furlong, he came fast and finished like a good one. Potente was lucky, waited on the pacemaker and drew clear in the stretch, but was unable to withstand the winners rush at the end. Miss Buttermilk displayed unexpected speed and stamina and is steadily improving. Animosity, fresh and good, closed up very fast under a weak ride. Brunswick failed to stay.
