- HOCAX TURF GOSSIP. From an authoritative source comes the information that although Starter Chris Fitz?erald is rapidly recovering from his illness, he will bo unfit to resume his position at New Orleans and will not wield the flag there this winter. Messrs. Holtman and Dwyer, both who are under contract to do the starting in California this winter, will, in tho event of either being released from their contract by tho California Jockey Club, be the selection of the Crescent City Jockey Club to fill the vacancy. Judge Carroll, who has been associated with Judge Trevelyan at Hawthorne, will leave at the close of tho current meeting for Latonia, where he will reaume the training of his horses which are stabled there. Jockey Birkenruth left last night for St. Lonig. Charley Thompson and Mattie Spencer, owned by H. N. McTyeiro, arrived at Hawthorne yesterday from Windsor in charge of J. Lyman. Steve LHommedieu returned yesterday from a trip to New York, where he has been on matters pertaining to his business. He will resume operations in tho ring at Harlem. Jockey L. Jackson willleavo tonight for Toronto, where he will do the riding for H. Stover during the meeting to bo held there. He will return for the meeting to be held at Worth.
