LAKESIDE RACING. The racing at Lakeside yesterday was dull and uninteresting, but even with the pooi; card offered, the attendance was as large as usuAl. The track had dried out considerably, butwas still soft enough to favor horses that run best in the mud. Betting was unusually brisk, the public having much the best of the days operations. The sport opened with a five furlongs scramble for two-year-olds. Albemarle was made a favorite, but had to succumo to Tom Maybin, the second choice in the betting, r illy Deck displaying much speed, led to the last quarter where she was joined by Albemarle and Tom Maybin. The last named, after "a short tbrusa witn Albemarle in the final eighth, came away easily, winning by a half length, while Albemarle beat Goody Twoshoes two for second place. Rankin showed well for a half mile. The others were never in the hunt. Moroni, showincr a marked improvement in form, proved to be the best in tne second race, a dash of six furlongs for three-year-olds and upward. He displayed speed throughout and. was never headed, winning easily by one length from Prue, which beat Annu five for second place. Prue finished stoutly and ran to her best form. Annu tired fast when the pinch came. Old Mike ran well for five furlongs and is deserving of attention from now on. Ami-rante appeared stiff and sore when going to the post and certainly ran as she appeared. The third race, a dash of six furlongs, for three-year-olds and upward, was productive of an exciting finish between If You Dare and Corinne Un-land. Little Jack Horner led by a big margin until well into the final quarter, where he had enough and resigned in favor of If You Dare and Corinne Unland, the latter two fighting it out to the wire. Battistes superior jockeyship over Birkenruths told in the closing strides and he lauded If You Dare first by a nose. Little Jack Horner finished an indifferent third. Moabina and Tom Kingsley ran far below the good form they have shown of late and were never serious contenders. Do Madge simply played with the field in the fourth race, a dash of one and one-sixteenth miles for four-year-olds and upward. Tickfnl led by a good margin until just entering the last quarter, where Do Madge eaBily shot to the front, winning in a canter by four lengths from Tickful, which beat Banish one for second place. Tickful ran in improved form and is worthy of consideration from now on. Banish tired palpably when the pinch came. Harney ran his usual honest race. Pirates Queen retired rapidly when the last eighth struggle came up. Lord Melbourne won the fifth race by a neck from Glenrice, which beat Oronte one for second place, and the last race was taken by Mission, which beat Ida Y. one length. Compass finished an indifferent third.
