Tancred was at home in the going and showed the most speed all the way, bnt was doing his best at the end to stall off Shoo Fly. The latter was on the outside of the leader all the way and Waugh was not of much help to her when it came to a drive. War Cry was on the inside in the deep goicsr for the entire route. Hide and Seek began slowly and stumbled at the far turn and Robbins had to pull up to keep from going down. Sidney Sabath was as good as left at the post. Sue Johnson ruled Chorus Boy to defat in the first half, bnt she tired when called on for a final effort. Henry of Trastamur tired after going three-quarters and quit as if short. Flop did not run his race and can do better. The others did not appear to be able to extend themselves in the going. Jessie Jarbos was in a pocket in the first half, was cut off at the far turn and her rider had to pull up and come around the leaders. She might have won but for the interference. Banish was bumped into at the start and closd a big gap in tho last half. James J. Corbett quit badly in the stretch run. Tom Collins tired as if short, but showed speed for a half. Daboe was as good as left at the post, but closed a big gap and finishing with a rush, got up in the last few feet and nailed Hobart for seeond place in the final stride. Hobart ran well but tired when called on. Lord Melbourne was on the inside all the way. Ordnung was pulled up after being left at the post. If You Dare outclassed his field in the going, wenu to the front when his rider was ready and was under restraint at the end. Sarner was on the extreme outside until past the turn into the homestretch ana covered more ground than any horse in the race. Boundlee finished on the inside in the deep going and just managed to last long enough to stall off The Bronze Demon. The latter made up a lot of ground in the last furlong. Optimo went to the front quickly and was never under serious pressure and Scully hustled him along all the way. He bumped into Commissioner Forster at tho eighth"post and then drew away. Scotph Plaid showed bnt little speed in the first half and Buchanan did not put up a vigorous ride until in the last furlong. He came very strongly at the end and was catching tho winner at every stride. Commissioner Forster was under restraint for the first half, but did not respond when Hicks called on him strongly.
