Katherino Ennig raced into a long, winning lead in tho first quarter, but was unexpectedly driving in the last sixteenth to beat Hesper. The latter was swerving badly, but finished fast and was best. Gibraltar, away in tho lead, quickly resigned his advantage and lacked his usual speed, but held on well after swerving in the stretlh. Velma Clark was tiring in tho stretch. Star Cotton closed a big gap. Bernota whirled at tho start and was practically left, but went after the field and ran a better race from a time standpoint than the winner. Goldone was lucky, had clear sailing and, lightly weighted, was wearing the leaders down at the end. St. Sever was prominent for the first half, but fell away in the final drive. Crest found her big weight burdonsome and, being unablo to outrun the winner, she failed to stay Loyal S., under pressure almost throughout, outstayed Phil Archibald. The latter was swerving badly in tho last quarter and should have been third Olinthus ran poorly. Guida. badly ridden, finished fast. Gus Lanka was evidently short and tired badly in the stretch. Indina displayed a high order of speed early. Fitzbrillar was bid up from 00 to ,5C0 and bought by S. Ethylene as if she outclmsied the flold, moved up fast on tho far turn and came away like a flash in the stretch won and was easing up at the end. Axmineter, apparently outrun in the first part of the race, closed a hie gap in the last half and stood a terrific finishing drive gamely. Bill Massio forced the paco to tha stretch, where ho appoared sure of second place, but was badly crowded at tho end. El Rio Shannon was always prominent and finished very fast.
