NOTES OF THE TUKF. At J. B. Haggins Rancho del Paso the imported stallion, July, has just died. The horse was brought to this country on the strength of being a full brother of Sir Modred, Idalium and Cheviot, but ho failed to make much of a mark in the stud. Galanthus, Justice, Juniper, Nellie Hawthorne, Summer and Jugurtha were about the best he sired. Dr. J. G. Lyman, the New York millionaire who bought a half interest in a lot of thoroughbreds with Col. James E. Peppor, and later sold out, has sent a string of nine horses to the Iroquois Stud of Capt. James B. Clay, Loxington, Ky., to be trained during the winter in charge of Walter House. They will bo raced east in the spring. Thoroughbreds belonging to T. F. Barrett, Sheriff of Cook County, Illinois, arrived Monday at Montgomery Park in charge of W. Nntt, the ex-jockey. Included in the bunch are Delia Ostrand and Barrack. The horses have gone into quarters at the local track for the cold season and will be started during the spring meeting. It is said that jockey Redfern will not accept mounts outside of the Darnell and Herz stable until the track gets into good shape again. When he left New York Mr. Whitneys instructions were that he take no chances riding in large fields or when the track was in bad shape. All but five of the horses of Tichenor and Co. will be shipped to Memphis today and rested up until the spring meeting at Montgomery Park. Trainer Poole said he had not given up hope that McChes-ney would wear the stable colors next season. Jack Keene, who is trying to regain poesession of jockey Grover Cleveland Fuller, received a letter, from Fuller last Wednesday, saying he would remain on the ground till the contract expired rather than return. Steeplechase jockey J. Johnson, who rode in the west for Gwynne Tompkins last season, has been engaged by L. V. Bell to pilot the extensive string of jumpers that he will campaign during the coming year. George Cochran, the steeplechase jockey, who rode in France last season, is in New Orleans looking for a good lightweight to ride on the flat. "Mose" Goldblatt has added MoranJa to his stable. He purchased the mare of A. Featherstone I for ,000. .
