Birch Broom had a rail position and was well in motion when the start came, showed much early speed and raced Versifier and Breaker to exhaustion, in the "first half, but was under, a drive in the last fifty yards to stall off. a challenge from War Cry. The latter .began slowly but closed a big gap and finished very fast. Happy Hooligan displayed a fine order of speed and made a runaway race of it. He was well in motion but was driving to the limit at the end to stall off Miss Nancy. The latter "was in close quarters next to the inside rail in the last furlong and the winner pinched her -off at the sixteenth post. McGonigle tired in the last hundred yards. Winkfield kept him well an hand for the first half and reserved him for a final effort, moved up and took command in the stretch run and was going away at the finish. Boomerack had every advantage, got off running and showed the most early speed but tired when strongly challenged. Vesuvia cut the corners at the turn into the homestretch and saved a lot of ground but tired at the end. Pearl Finder was a contender, until well around the far turn, then quit suddenly. Odom got him away in his stride and he set his field a fast clip throughout, but had to be hustled along at the end to stall off Bummer. Bummer about ran his race, Treanor lost his whip at the furlong post. LEtrenne failed to show her usual burst of early speed, but the going was unfavorable to her. Benson Caldwell was under restraint for the first half, moved up while rounding the far turn and caught Willard J. tiring,. came away easily in the stretch run and was only cantering at the end. Chickadee came again in the stretch and outgamed Willard J. when it came to a hard drive. The latter ran the best race he has shown at the meeting, and displayed much-early speed but could not last the trip. Throw out McWilliams5 race. Won easily; second the same. t- Jim Clark ran as if he outclassed his field, went to the front in the first furlong and opened up a gap while rounding the far turn and easily drew away in the stretch. Albert F. Dewey was crowded back at the first turn but wore his field down and finished going fast. Melbourne Eclipse is a slow beginner but came very fast when he got in his stride. Fair Lass and Cork showed early speed but tired. Great American quit as if short and the race should improve him. Right and True can do better.
