Won easily; second the same Orsija forced the pace running well in hand to the stretch, where she drew away like a flasTi and was much the best. Alta G. got away badly and closed a great gap running on the extreme outside and was easily second best. Honeysuckle, nearly left, made up ten lengths on the leaders. Frank Bullock ran fast in the last half and is promising Rionda was crowded out of the race early and improved his position steadily. Indina quit in the last sixteenth. Vonzollern was short. Toribio, suddenly improved, waited to the stretch where he made good and won going away, and when good is of the useful class. Legal Maxim got away poorly and was excessively used to get up, forced the pace and appeared like winning in the stretch, but tired. Star Cotton finished fast. El Piloto. nearly left, worked a rough journey and closed up a big gap. Pat Morrissey was repeatedly interfered with and pulled up and had no chance with his bad ride. Arthur Ray tired in the last quarter and may have been short. Overweights Alaria, 1 pound; Arthur Ray, 1. Toribio, show, 3 to 1. Legal Maxim, show, 2 to 1. Star Cotton, show, 2 to 1. Meehanus, away fiatfooted and seriously interfered with on the first turn, bided his time and moved up like a flash on the stretch turn, taking the lead in a jiffy and cantering home was much the best. Urchin finished through the last quarter very fast after working a rough passage. Mr. Dingle took up the running at the half and held on gamely throughout. Stunts made a slow pace for a half and under a poor ride was outsprinted at the end but was probably second best. Nellie Forest tired in the stretch run. Donami ran badly. Meehanus, show, out. Dainty went the longest way around and although Knapp was whipping through the last three furlongs finished with unexpected speed and gameness and outstayed Gravina after a long stretch drive. The latter followed the fast pace closely and stuck to her work well and finished fast under a weak and inefficient ride. Honiton made the running at a tremendously fast pace and sustained her speed in a high class manner with no assistance from a poor jockey. Huachuca was pocketed throughout next to the rail and compelled to pull up in the last furlong, and with clear sailing might have won. Peter J. got away badly, went well for a half and then quit. Winner Br. h, by Watercress Lizzie Hampton trained by G. Miller. Went to post at 3:53. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Sir Hampton led well in hand throughout and easily came away when called on in the stretch. Handpress followed the winners pace closely and finished fast through the last qua-rter, but was unable to extend the winner. Light Ball was always prominent and held on in improved fashion. Oriania was interfered with and generally messed about and was going fast at the end on his own courage. Glissando went well. Grand Sachem will give a good account of hmself at the Oakland track. Start good. Won driving; second the same. Greyfeld practically forced the pace throughout and put up a game effort under a vigorous and alert ride. Goldone was hard held for six furlongs, delayed making his run and went a wide stretch turn, then finished with a rush and was going fastest of all at the end and was best. Baffled was choked in an effort to place her and had scant chance with a bad jockey and was swerving badly in the final drive. Castake went well for a mile, tiring at the end. Bonnie Lissak, interfered with at the start, worked a rough passage and finished fast. Expedient, under a skillful ride, made a bad showing and is evidently stale.
