Gibraltar was lucky and always within striking distance, finished fast and just got up. Educate sustained her speed unexpectedly well and ran in improved form. The Miller finished with a rush. Pure Dale tired from following Midloves pace closely for the first half. Midlove made the running for five furlongs and quit right at the end. Start bad. Won driving; second easily. I. O. U. is a slow beginner and fell almost hopelessly out of it in the first sixteenth.but closed a tremendous gap and was much the best. El Piloto got away running, forced the pace and seemed the winner throughout, but Frawley was caught napping at the end. Marineuse is in fine form, strictly a mudlark and fresh and good, and ran a good race. Learoyd finished well. Rim Rock, away badly, worked a rough journey and "made up much ground, but was unable to stride freely in the going. Scratched Tonopah, 97. Overweights I. O. Sea Lion indulged Hipponax to the stretch, where he easily ran past him and was much the best. Hipponax made the running for six furlongs, but quickly succumbed to the winners rush in the last quarter although he stuck to his work gamely and was easily second best. Filibuster caught the others tiring and dropped into third place at the end. Lode Star, away slowly, trailed last for seven furlongs, then closed up like a whirlwind in the last furlong. Decoy quit early. Jim Gore II. failed to stay and favors a slower track. Mexicana closed a gap and finished going very fast. Rag Tag was badly ridden, went wide on the stretch turn and is best on a sticky track. Alice Cary made the running and had an apparently winning lead on the far turn, but tired in the stretch. Little Margaret, away none too well, ran a game race at the weights.
