Winner B. c, by Longstreet Laura Ethel trained by G. Borkel. Went to post at 3:00. At post 1 minute. Start poor. Won easily; second handily. Turnpike was practically left at the post. Haack was not ready when the barrier went up and the colt was ten lengths out of the race in the first furlong, but went on and hugged the rail all the way while the others went wide, closed up gamely in the stretch and caught the fast tiring Dr. Saylor when a sixteenth from home and won going away. It was a fine perfomance and stamps Turnpike as an improved colt. Dr. Saylor ran in a good position to the stretch, but went wide on the turns and had to be hard ridden to dispose of Honolulu. The effort was too much for him and he tired in the final furlong. He was slightly lame as he went to the post. Mezzo .finished fast on the extreme outside where the going was best. Anna Daly was a sharp contender for six furlongs. Honolulu was at home in the going, but quit badly when caught. Scratched 3S1492Merriment, 104; ,380543Blue and Orange, 94. Contentious, easily best, revelled in the going and was eased up at the end. Eleata stood a long drive and was best of the others. Ora McKinney hung on gamely all the way under punishment. Echinate displayed a flash of early speed, but was not up to a hard race. Magic Flute ran poorly. Mica is high in flesh and a race or two should improve her. Young Jesse was green at the post and was practically left. Overweights Ora McKinney, 2 pounds; Mica, 2; Young Jesse, 1. Contentious, show, 1 to 5. Eleata, show, 6 to 1. Ahumada was easily the best and at home in the going and forced the pace all the way. Redfern shook him up when a furlong from home, but he won with plenty to spare. Tugai Bey outgamed the others in the final drive. Embarrassment began slowly, but made up ground and fought out the finish gamely. Orloff had no mishaps. Scratched 38149 Shrine, 101. No show betting. Winner Ch. c, by Golden Gate La Clair trained by M. Daly. Went to post at 4:25. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Slidell began quickly and Gannon hustled him along. He showed the most speed throughout and was under restraint at the end. It was a poor ride on Daly. He was in pockets all the way and has shown much better form, but is best on a dry track. Annie Grace ran a fair race. Prancer, off poorly and taken up too fast in the first part of the race, tired after going six furlongs. Bassverine was outclassed. It was a poor race for Animosity and she can do better. Overweights Prancer, 3 pounds; Animosity, 1. Slidell, show, 1 to 2. Winner Ch. c, by Halma Token trained by D. Carter. Went to post at 4:55. At post 3 minutes. Start poor. Won driving; second handily. Odom rode a vigorous finish on Locket and that won for him. He was tiring fast at the end after forcing the pace from the start. Springbrook ran a good race and would have won, but .Chappell could not cope with Odom at the end. Zirl also ran a good race, but the route was a trifle too far and she tired in the last sixteenth. Blue Victor and Black Dick finished very fast on the extreme outside and would have had the race between them in another sixteenth. Imperious made up a lot of ground after getting away poorly, then tired. Alpaca should improve. Her race was a good one for nearly six furlongs. Scratched 38166 Slidell, 113; 381663Annie Grace, 110. Bon Mot ran a good race in the going and was best at the weights. He stumbled badly fifty yards from the finish, but recovered quickly and was doing his best at the end. Lord Badge is a consistant gelding, handled the weight well and stood a long drive, fighting out the finish gamely. Circus ran well, was slowly gaining at the end, is rounding to and will win in this going. Athelroy stumbled on the backstretch when he was going well and could not get up again, the weight being too much. Bar Le Due was poorly handled and shut off while turning for home and was eased up at the end. Scratched 380223Yellow Tail, 126; 36488 Orontas, 125; 38131April ..
