Grand Opera is in rare form at present and was skillfully handled throughout. Shaw rated him carefully in front and drew away in the final, furlong, when Yellow Tail seemed the winner. Yellow Tail saved ground all the way and made a determined bid in the final furlong, but lacked speed to come on after he had reached Grand Operas neck. New York, speedy but a shade outclassed at the weights, tired when hard driven in the stretch. Flying Buttress was hard ridden through the stretch and would have been third in another stride or two.
