In hand book betting an added starter counts only to the extent he affects the betting, the backer of the horse that run second wins but at a less price than that quoted. The price is determined by the probable odds with the added starters percentage deducted. Girard, Chicago. The backer of Judith Campbell lost. He should have backed the entry. W, J. C, Chicago. No favorite has won the American Derby during the past four years, the race having been run only four times in that period. The last winning favorite was Strathmeath, in 189L J. A. B., Chicago. The wager on Harry New was a draw. It was open to A to back the entry and have the benefit of Judge Himes running, but he singled out Harry New and is only entitled to his money back. Inquirer. Brigadier holds the record at a mile on the ordinary oval track.
