LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. The judges were dissatisfied with the rides put up by Henry on Tom Maybin and Lord Melbourne and demanded an explanation from him. After hearing the excuse offered, Judge Bryan informed Henry that hereafter his riding would be carefully watched and the slightest suspicious move would earn him an indefinite suspension. Jockey H. Phillips was sharply reprimanded by the judges after the fifth race for his exhibition of foul riding on Prairie Dog. G. Carroll, who is acting as the Western Jockey Club steward at the Hawthorne track, will have three of his horses now racing -at Jjafonia shipped here next Sunday. The horses which will in all probability line up to the barrier for the Harlem National Handicap with their jockeys and latest odds offered against their chances in the overnight betting are as follows: Horses Wt Jockeys Odds McChesney 127 Bullman or Gray 4tol Flying Torpedo ...110 J. Several of those listed to start are marked ifoubtful, and. will in all probability be with drawn, but several owners late last night signified their intentions of sending a representative to the post. The most likely to be added are Evea G. 101, Gilfain 96, and Hoodwink 103. If the track warrants it, McChesney will run. Much depends on the weather. Secretary Nathanson said last night: "If there is no more rain and the sun shines tomorrow, the Harlem Park track will be good enough for any horse in the world to run on." E. E. Smathers said last night: "Of course I want to see my horse run, and I have many friends here that want to see him run. Some of them have come especially to see him run. Also I realize how much, the public wants him to go. But if more rain falls and the track is too bad we will not risk him." McChesney yesterday morning worked a mile over the Harlem track in 1:52.
