Won driving; second the same. Minotaur was lucky at the start and, striving early to retain his position and being vigorously ridden, he wore the leaders down in a long stretch drive, winning in the last stride. John A. Scott received an over-confident ride and was waited with too long before going after the pacemaker after they were straightened for the finish and only just managed to head him in the last fifty yards and was caught napping right at the end by the winner. Osgood has worked in fast time -and forced the pace throughout and was probably unlucky to lose. Nevermore fell out of the race before he got into his stride and closed a tremendous gap in the last half. His best races were on this track. Orloff quit. Mayor Graham, Pittacus and Star and Garter all finished well up, but were outclassed. Scratched— 39416 Captivator, 112; 34823 Dr. Bissell, 103. Overweights — Mayor Graham, 2 pounds; Miss Gould, 2. Won driving; second the same. Sambo is a genuinely good horse and in fine form. Placed for the first six furlongs within striking distance of the pacemaker, he was sent after him a little late and only got up in the final stride. Himself got away running; led with his head high in the air and was not forced to do his best until in the last furlong, where he tired badly. Carbuncle received a poor start and swerved across the track but, gradually closing a gap, he came with a rush at the end and was easily second best. Hunter Raine broke flatfooted and was immediately knocked out of the race by Carbuncle and further impeded by Glenvarloch. He gained fifteen lengths on the leaders. Numeral, under a pull, followed Himself for six furlongs and again sulked when called upon. Scratched— 39450661*. 126; 39420 Torchlight, 105; 39417 Arden, 93. Sambo, show, 1 to 2. Hamburg Belle is probably one of the fastest fillies seen in this country in a decade, has size, conformation and the most perfect action imaginable. It was for this incomparable filly only an exercise gallop to dispose of the fleet ones opposed to her and she won pulling up the entire length of the homestretch. Dimple fell to running quickly and her advantage at the start helped her to save second place. At that she is steadily improving. Contentious was outrun and compelled to turn into the stretch on the outside, but when straightened away she finished like a cyclone. Mimosa was nearly left and all tangled up She ran an amazingly fast middle half and though badly beaten at the end for show honors she was evidently much the best, excepting the winner. Mapoota, a slow mover at the post, held on well to her position throughout. Trossachs ran green, is a reputed crackerjack and looks it. Fine Art went a fast three furlongs and was eased up. Scratched— Fine Fleur, 114; 394522Pirouette, 114. Dimple, show, 7 to 5. Contentious, show, 3 to 1. Mimosa, show, out. 39511 °USeUngRACB— 1 1*16 M"eS" ?1,0~dded- 3-year-olds and upward. Winner — B. c, by St. George — Nervine trained by R. Miller. Went to post at 3:55. At post 1 minute. Start straggling. Won driving; second easily. Northbrook secured a lucky opening on the first turn and, although hemmed in on all sides in the run up the backstretch and around the far turn, he found his opening- when the leaders squared away from home and shot through, taking the pacemakers measure in good style after a long stretch drive, winning going away. Ben Howard made the running hard held for nearly seven furlongs and only succumbed at the very end. St. Sever never got out of close quarters until in the final furlong, putting up a game race under adverse conditions. Kingraine was carried out on the stretch turn and finished fast. Ocla-waha was badly interfered with at the half and forced to pull up. Arden, away badly closed a big gap and is rounding to. Rockeys chances were ruined directly after the start. Scratched — 39451 Meistersinger, 104; 38999 Rough Rider, 103. Overweights— North Brook, 1 pound; Oclawaha, 2; Dark Planet, 1; Bride Card, 1. North Brook, show, evens. Ben Howard, show, 8 to 5. Jim Kelly, with a pull in the weights and probably the superior weight carrier, trailed the two fillies close up, then flashed into the lead as they straightened out for the wire, winning with great ease. Agnes Brennan is very fast and game, but her big burden told on her at the end and she finished staggering, but gamely trying. Julia M., pulled back early as if with a view of placing her, then suddenly closed up the leaders wide gap, but had neither the speed nor stamina to threaten seriously in the stretch run. Thorneycroft worked a rough journey up the backstretch, but with fair sailing in the last three furlongs he mowed the front division down one by one and his final rush carried him to victory before the rider of Dekaber woke up. The latter had been skilfully placed In front after a lucky start and seemed to have the race won when a sixteenth out and is both fast and game. Leipsic failed only in the last fifty yards after a gamely sustained effort to head the pacemaker. Nic Longworth had to overcome considerable interference before he could get into a contending position and tired in the last furlong. Williamstead was badly treated on the first turn and steadily improving his position thereafter Bob Hilliard went a good six furlongs. Gallant Smith was always outrun and came out of the race lame and in bad shape. Scratched— 39390 Espirito, 112; 39447 Blue Jay, 110. Thorneycroft, show, 7 to 5. Dekaber, show, 1 to 2. Leipsic, show, 3 to 5. Gallant Smith, show, 1 to 2.
