St. Finnan received a lucky start, always had clear sailing and Burns tremendously vigorous finish saved him third place. Pompano was the only other one to get away well and gave the winner a strong argument all the way, ran a fast and game race and is worth remembering. Sacredus, always a slow beginner, worked his way into third place when the stretch was reached, but was too far away to seriously threaten the first two. Excentral held her position well. Pleasant Memories finished fast. Miss Nancy closed up much ground. Honey Bee, away badly, closed a gap. Bruceville was repeatedly interfered with and will show to advantage at longer distances. Tribes Hill received a lucky start and enjoyed clear sailing, was moreover handled intelligently and came through the final quarter in the gamest fashion and was going away fast. Leader, away poorly and crowded and thrown to his knees on the first turn, raced into the lead on the extreme outside in the middle half and appeared like winning when straightened for home, but the winner wore him down at the end. Setauket improved his position steadily from a poor start and at the end was an easing up third. Daisy Green failed to stay. Hist ran in improved form. Royal Pirate went well in incapable hands. Ben Howard found the track too dusty and failed to stay well. Remorse was knocked out of the race on the first turn. Scratched— 39387 Bon Mot, 111. Overweights — Royal Pirate, 1 pound.
