Jake Greenberg came again at the end and beat John Coulter out in the last stride. The latter tired after closing a big gap. Gold Bell won as if he outclassed his field in the going and Reed had him under restraint all the way. Golden Light shook Kilmorie off in the stretch run. Avoid came fast through the stretch and won mainly on her own courage as Reed was not strong enough to do her justice. She stumbled several times in the last quarter, but wore Belle Mahone down and outgamed her at the end. Belle Mahone was much used in chasing Grand Mary and Mint Leaf in the first half. Diamonds and Rubies closed a big gap. Grand Mary and Mint Leaf tired when the pinch came. Overweights— Vogue, 5 pounds. Avoid, show, 1 to 2. Belle Mahone, show, 3 to 5. He then came on fast and outgamed Sinner Simon in a sharp drive. The latter tired in the last dozen strides. Boaster had to go all around his field to get up and was quitting at the end. Ed Callahan finished fast and would have been second in another stride. Tennessean closed a big gap. He ran a winning race and is worth remembering. Myrtle White got off running and showed speed to the stretch. Lora J. wheeled when the barrier went up. Bombast was left standing. Overweights— Bettie Deceiver, 3 pounds; Bombast, 31.
