Captivator got away tangled up and worked his way through on the inside, closing up with a rush in the last furlong and was much the best in the going. Miss Dorothy developed surprising speed in the going and easily outran her field for the first half and, in spite of swerving to the rail at the end, she held on gamely. Royal Summons followed the leader closely and was wearing her down at the finish and but for interference would have been second. Lord Badge closed a big gap from a bad start and was not ridden to advantage. Orion! was under a vigorous drive to keep up with the front division and did not last three furlongs. Judge Felton was going well at the end. Sparkle Esher ran badly. Winner — Ch. c, by Golden Garter— Stella trained by A. C. McCafferty. Went to post at 3:00. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won driving; second easily. Star and Garter, lucky and skilfully ridden, outstayed Kickshaw in a long stretch drive. The latter fought for the lead practically throughout and ran an unexpectedly game race in the mud. Scoffer went wide on the stretch turn and was making up ground slowly in the last furlong. Nic Longworth got away badly and was interfered with while rounding the first turn. Coming from last place at the half, he finished fast and ran an extra good race, although probably handicapped by the going. Blue Jay, badly ridden, ran a cracking good race and is one of the improving sort. Hist forced the pace for six furlongs, tiring badly in the stretch. Dark Planet ran a bad race and has probably trained off. Star and Garter, show, evens. Kickshaw, show, 7 to 10. Scoffer, show, 6 to 5. Grenada beat the barrier and made the running under a pull to the stretch, where he was suddenly passed by Cascine, which he subsequently wore down and beat out in the last sixteenth, winning going away. Cascine broke well, but his jockey was not alert and several lengths were lost in the first furlong. From the three-furlong post he raced into the lead with a remarkable burst of speed and Waterburys weak, inefficient finish lost for him. Harbor steadily improved his position, closing a big gap and going fast at the end. He is much on the big side as yet and may be a coming good one. Bob Murphy failed to get away well and, being pocketed next to th% rail, was pulling up frequently in the first furlong, but raced into the lead and turned into the straight on even terms with the winner, then fell away at the end. He is a very promising colt. Don John looks like a coming" good one, but was unable to stride freely in the going. Mohave looks like a crackerjack and is evidently being raced into condition. OONTINCKD Of FIFTH TAUH. BROOKLYN FORM CHART-CONTINUED. Major Daingerfield, with a lucky start and superb handling, forced the pace throughout and came away fast, but was swerving over to the inner rail in the final furlong. He was particularly favored by the going and is in great form and outclassed the field. Merry Acrobat ran a remarkably game race, gave the winner the strongest kind of an argument from start to finish and but for being pinned in tightly nepct to the rail in the stretch would possibly have made a close thing of it. He is a wonder in the mud and a stayer. Rightful, also at his best in mud and under light weight, was pocketed early and pulling up repeatedly in the first half and was probably very unlucky not to find an opening early in the race. Himself was carried to defeat by the terrific early pace and could never get into a contending position. Hunter Raine closed a tremendous gap in the last half. Grand Opera was prominent for six furlongs, but could not show his best form on this track. Young Henry ran as if he had trained off. Winner — Ch. c, by Mirthful — Bassinette trained by J. G. Glennon. Went to post a 4:20. At post 2 minutes. Start straggling. Won driving; second easily. Baseful got away in the midst of a mixup and was pulling up and messed about and on the far turn almost fell to his knees, but finally wound up the race by finishing like a cyclone and winning out through sheer gameness at the .end. Pirouette was always a prominent contender and next to the rail in the deep going and when a furlong out appeared like having a winning lead when she was suddenly passed by Baseful, but at the end was again wearing him down. Bronx beat the barrier and made the most of his advantage, but failed to stay. Tomcod finished going fast. Midshipman closed a big gap. Avenger was an easing up sixth. Montana King finished like a four-year-old and should be slow to develop. Scratched— 39418 Brooklyn, 112; Prince of Elm, 112; 39482 Reveille, 112; 39572Andrew Mack, 112. Winner — Ch. h, by Knight of Ellerslie— Dearest trained by J. Frayling. Went to post at 4:50. At post 1 minute. Start straggling. Won driving; second easily. Knight of the Garter never relinquished the lead after rounding the first turn, putting up a fast and game race and is at present in extra good form. Bar Le Due trailed too far out of it and when he moved up with a rush on the stretch turn he swerved in behind tlie winner and the ground lost in getting him straightened out beat him. North Brook appeared light when he came out and found the journey too long and trying, as he palpably failed to stay. Carroll D., always much better in muddy going, lived up to his reputation as a non-stayer. Scratched— 39 5 963Scoffer, 91. Corrected weights — Knight of the Garter, 113. No show betting on first three.
