Start straggling. Won easily; second driving. Locket got away in his stride and at once raced into a long and winning lead with the field badly strung out and every one driving behind him. Daisy Green practically forced the pace for the remainder of the field and stood a long stretch drive gamely. Rostand,- away poorly, steadily improved his position and was going well at the end. Eva Russell ran a . comparatively dull race, failed to improve her position early and could riot come on at th~5 end. Ben Howard was prominent to the stretch. Oclawaha closed a gap from a bad start. Brixton had no chance at the start and was early deluged with mud. Africander drew to the front on the first turn and led his field by a comfortable margin to the finish, always had a lot in hand and showed a great performance in the going. Duke of Kendal showed superior form today and closed up steadily from the far turn, going very fast at the end. Colonsay followed the winner closely and easily for the first seven furlongs, but at the end was tiring and swerved badly. Akela fell out of contention early and probably sulked. Invincible went a good six furlongs and ran like a non-stayer. Scratched— 39147 Brigand, 115; 39670 Injunction, 114; 39205 Dr. Saylor, 100; 39450 Elliott, 99. Africander, show, 1 to 8. Won easily; second driving. W- 3*. Condon drew out at the start and went away from the others fast on the far turn and held his own without trouble in the stretch. He ran a much improved race today, and has always shown particular preference for this kind of going. Minotaur, which had at the , beginning forced the winner along, suddenly fell away on the turn and then came again at -the end. Toscan was decisively outrun and became discouraged in consequence. He is very fast, but fainthearted and mud has been thought to be his forte. Forward kept a forward position throughout and at the end was going well on his own courage. Captivator found the pace too fast. John A. Scott was held at the post and got away badly and being next to the rail, was hopelessly pocketed and was pulled up in the stretch. Julia M. showed the most early speed and appeared like having a winning lead when straightened for home, but tired In the last few strides. Dusky ran green and fell out of it early, then moved up like a flash on the turn, but again fell away at the end. Trossachs disliked the going and may reverse this running on a good track. Silurian beat the barrier and forced the pace throughout, outstaying Lord Advocate at the end. The latter raced head and head with the winner from the start and ran in remarkably improved fc -n. Carroll D. was reserved to the stretch, where he moved up fast. St. Sever was held H the post and was nearly left, but was badly ridden afterward and quit in the last quartt,.-, running a bad race. Baseful, an improving colt and a particularly fine performer in the mud, under McCues vigorous ride, raced into a long and winning lead on the far turn and, although tiring at the end, gamely stood off Toledos strong bid. The latter got away slowly and raced on the extreme outside, then swerved into the rails in the stretch and was compelled to pull out and come on the outside, had little chance with the glaringly incompetent ride and was best. Reveille got away badly and was pocketed and ran a game race. Excentral worked hard to keep in front and was shut off on the turn and eased up at the end. Celebrant ran a bad race and was always outrun. Scratched— 396233Ishlana, 116; 39146 The Lady Rohesia. 115. Baseful, show. 1 to 3. Toledo, show, 1 to 4. Reveille, show, 2 to 5.
