LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. J. . W. Pughs string of horses, consisting of fifteen head, arrived yesterday from Detroit in charge of trainer J. Hall. J. C. Milam ordered his three two-year-olds Miss Cassatt, Miss RelUe and Max Samuel-son shipped to him from the farm in Lexington, Ky., where they had been at pasture. Jockey Troxler left last night for St. Louis where he will do some riding and will return here next Monday. F. Leigh, who was alleged to be mixed up with the Sarah Black ringing case at Grosse Pointe, returned yesterday from Detroit, and stated that he had been exonerated by Judge Murphy from any complicity in the ringing case. Jockey Robbins was yesterday given a sharp lecture by the judges for his persistent bad behavior while at the post. His plea that he cannot control his mount is too well worn, and in future a severe penalty will be inflicted on the diminutive rider unless he mends his ways while at the post. Starter Dwyer stated that Pat Hammon tried to bolt when the barrier was released and impeded the progress of Esherson, thereby spoiling the latters chances as well as his own. It was reported that T. C. McDowells Allan-a-Dale had worked yesterday one and one-quarter miles in 2:075 in preparation for the Oakwood Handicap.
