- OFF FOR NEW ORLEANS. Horsemen from these parts, contemplating spending the winter mouths and deriving a livelihood by racing their horses at the Crescent City, were astir early yesterday morning superintending the loading of their horses on the special train at the "Worth track. A dozen Arms-Burton palace horse cars had been backed to the siding during the night and everything had apparently been put in readiness for an early start, but as is usual in cases of special horse trains, the actual departing time was nearly four hours later than the time scheduled. The usual excitement in evidence when a train of its kind leaves for New Orleans was in a measure lacking this year, this was chiefly on account of the absence of hangers-on about a racetrack, commonly known as "hustlers," who make an owners life a burden at shipping time with petitions to be taken along. This year the Chicago season closed much sooner than formerly and consequently the wait for New Orleans opening is much longer. The hustlers on that account found it much more to their interest to go to Latonia and put in a few weeks there, and then leave on the special which is billed to leave there. The owners -who shipped their horses yesterday are the same ones in nearly every case that have heretofore made the Crescent City their headquarters in the winter. J. Arthur, J. U. Strode, E. Trotter, K. D. Orr, J. F. Davis, S. W. Streett and one or two others have always had the good fortune to get their fair share of the ! purses there, and this year should prove no exception.
