LATONIA GOSSIP. -In the steeplechase at Latonia Monday, Faraday, Jr., bolted at the third jump and scraped Monahans leg so sharply that he pulled up and dismounted. At the last jump Triso fell, turned a complete somersault, rolled over on jockey G. Wilson, knocked out three of his teeth, cut his right eye and injured his hip. The horse was not hurt. He got up and galloped after the field, while the jockey was being carried off on the stretcher. Several owners got in with their stables at Latonia Monday morning. Some few came from St. Louis, but the majority of them shipped here from the Worth track at Chicago. Among them were Frank Arthur, with Evas Darling, Boundary and a two-year-old; James Arthur, with the three-year-old mare Mamselle; C. K. Burdeau, with Hayward Hunter and Lou Woods; Mose Jacobson, with Premus and Addie Turnstall; Mose Goldblatt, with Jena, Brief, Rainland and Boaster; V. Hughes, with Tancred, Tro-cadero and two two-year-olds; S. E. Parmer, with Little Boy and Orderly; G. W. Scott and Co., with Tokalon, Apollonaris and Trom-peuse; J. W. Fuller, with Alamode, John E. Owens, Captan Hamm, Enverite, Voila, Dont Ask Me, R. F. Williams, and Aurita; H. J. Perry and Co., with Coruscate, Mandamus and Tribes; C. S. Brownell, with Nestoria; W. D. Twyman, with Ocean Dream, Dungannon and Beneficent, and J. J. McCafferty, with Thane, Alfred C, Frank Rice, Lighthunt, Firing Line, Mary McCafferty and Eda Riley. Eight new books cut in at Latonia Monday, making twenty-two in the line, while two of the old ones went off. The new slates put up were those of Fred Cook, S. Everhardt, Sam Stephens, Dr. Rainey, Billy Huber, Fred Pesch and Frank Bain. Riley Grannan also cut in. Billy Coleman and J. K. Hughes went off. Rome Respess was, until a day or so ago, undecided as to how best to winter Dick Welles. At the Woodlawn Farm a new barn has been erected in the place of the one destroyed by fire last winter, and for a time he was figuring on chancing the great colt in this structure with the balance of the string, but he has now decided to erect a concrete barn of one stall and quarters for an attendant, who will be with the champion constantly during the frozen period.
