LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. j P. Dunne will ship about twelve horses to Los Angeles, while E. Corrigan will ship fully as many, if not more. J. C. Yeager, F. Lanterman and E. G. Stuttes horses, in charge of "Bob" Campbell, will fill two express cars. All the horses are at present quartered at Hawthorne and will be shipped next week. Emil Herz stopped off in Chicago yesterday en route to San Francisco from New York. In conversation he stated that he had recently purchased the three-year-old filly Cottage Maid and had turned her over to E. L. Graves, who will race her at Ben-nings, D. C. He also said that in a recent letter received from his trainer, the latter stated that all the Herz horses were doing well and that Lucien Appleby had fully recovered from his sickness and is showing no ill effects, on the contrary, is working well and gives promise of regaining his old-time form.
