The latter ran a good race and held on well, but was all out from his early efforts. Girdle ran a good race at the weights and finished fast under a drive after having been outrun in the early stages. Homestead began slowly, but came fast at the end. Winner B. c, by Kismet Prose trained by J. McCormick Went to post at 2:30. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won driving; second easily. G. Whittiar ran a good race and Gannon handled him to perfection, had him in reserve to the stretch bend, where he got through and closed up fast under a hand ride, caught Gaviota tiring in the last hundred yards and was going away at the end. Gaviota ran under a pull to the last quarter and would have won if she could have got clear in time. As it was. she was in front at the final sixteenth and only succumbed in the last few strides. Ethics improved with a rush and came fast at the end after beginning slowly. Early Eve ran well and finished gamely. The route was a trifle far for Arden, which showed speed, but was used up in racing with Ernest Parham. The latter was short and was eased up in the final strides. Ella Snyder ran well for six furlongs. Scratched 42651 Animosity, 99. Corrected weights Arden, 105. Overweights Gaviota, 1 pound; Ethics, 3; Paget, 2. G. Monet and Crown Prince showed the most speed and had the race between them all the way, but Monet was best ridden and lasted long enough to win. Crown Prince was probably best and a furlong from home it seemed as if he would win easily, but he tired slightly and was weakly ridden at the finish. Reticent ran a good race and was slowly gaining at the end. Pol Roger closed a gap after being crowded back at the start. M. Theo ran a good race. Julia M. quit after showing early speed. Wizard was sharplv cut off right after the start. There was a lot of crowding among the rear division in the first quarter. Stamping Ground is in rare form, showed plenty of speed and forced a fast pace all the way, but was tiring some in the final furlong and Higgins took no chances, riding her hard to the finish. The mare was all out and doing her best. Colonsay, in next to the rail all the way, was lucky to get through on the stretch turn and stood a long stretch drive gamely to stall off Sheriff Bell. The latter had no mishaps, ran in a good position all the way and lacked the speed to come on at the end. Wild Thyme could not give the weight, but followed the pace closely, only to tire in the last hundred yards. Overweights Colonsay, 3 pounds. No show betting. 4:260 FIFTH RACE 5 1-2 Furlongs. Silver Dream, a good, game filly anQ in rare form at present, stood a long stretch drive to catch Mimosa and was going away al the end with something in reserve. Mimosa displayed a fine burst of speed, but does not seem to be able to stay and is best in the mud. Palette ran a fair race and was eased up in the final strides. Trepan received the benefit of a good ride and that won for him. He closed up fast and gamely in the stretch under a drive and wore down Mart Mullen in the last hundred yards. Mart Mullen showed improvement and hung on gamely at the end. Sir Ship began slowly, but got through next to the rail on the first turn and his race was a good one for him.
