Sailors Dream made up much ground and had to go all around his field to get up, but drew away and won in a canter. Melbourne Eclipse began slowly, was crowded back at the first turn, but closed a big gap and outgamed Choice and Honeybrook when the pinch came. Choice ran well, but tired in the last furlong. Honeybrook came wide at the turn into the homestretch, but finished fast. Kings Pet was lame and the winner pulled up lame. Charlie Grainger showed early speed. Scratched 42G10 Radford, 99. Anna Hastings quickly ran into the lead, showed the most speed thereafter and was never in trouble. Sjambok and Athena fought it out closely in the last sixteenth, the former just lasting long enough. Athena ran a good race and finished gamely. Lyrist closed a big J gap and finished fast. Sea Pirate raced Ceylon to subjection in the first mile, but came very wide at the turn into the homestretch and might have won with a good ride. Ceylon tired when the pinch came."
