NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey Walter Robbins is reported to have signed a contract to do the lightweight riding for Capt. S. S. Browns New Orleans stable. It was the intention of the elder Robbins to ship from Latonia to Los Angeles. He will now send his stable to the Crescent City track. Secretary Sheridan Clark reports that from 350 to 375 horses that have been raced over eastern tracks this year will be sent to New Orleans for the coming winter campaign. George Odom has asked the stewards of the Jockey Club to order the payment of his claim for twenty-one days services for "Alex." Shields at the rate of ,000 per month. The matter was referred to F. R. Hitchcock and the Assistant Secretary for further investigation. Gunfires win at Jamaica last Wednesday put W. C. Whitney in advance of J. B. Hag-gin in the list of winning owners of 1903, and he will probably prove the head of the list when the seasons record is made up. Winkfield has promised to ride Dr. J. G. Lymans horses during the Bennings meeting. After the races at Washington he will stay at his home in Cincinnati until time to sail I for Russia with J. O. Keene. Winkfield is now twenty-three years old. He weighs, with j his overcoat, 123 pounds, but claims he can ride as low as 107.
