Outrun in the first part of the race, he made up ground gradually and wore Red Damsel down in the stretch, but was all out and doing his best at the end to stall off King Pepper. The latter finished fast and was in front a stride beyond the finish. Red Damsel showed much early speed and tired in the deep, sandy going, but ran gamely at the end under the whip. Blue and Orange was crowded back in the first sixteenth. Highlander performed poorly. Andrattus tired after going five furlongs and was eased up at the end. Gypsic went fairly well and is only a rater. Champion tired badly after running well for a mile and a half. High Chancellor was a good horse today and had to be to win. He was on the outside of the field all the way and came fast in the final furlong when the others were tiring and was going away at the end. Castalian saved ground next to the rail all the way and made o determined effort in the stretch, only to tire in the last hundred yards. Elsie L. ran a good race and was aided by her light impost. Ice Water and Judith Campbell were used up in making the early running. Young Henry closed a big gap in the final furlong and finishedf fast. Ort Wells is probably a good colt and won in impressive fashion. Beginning slowly, he made up ground gradually and came fast in the stretch under a hand ride. His race was better than it appeared on paper for he had to come wide into the stretch. Lord of the Valley probably needed the race to fit him, is a speedy youngster and ran well, but plainly was short. Champlain held on well in the stretch. Robin Hood was a contender for nearly five furlongs and tired. It was a poor race for Greencrest. Henderson was kicked while at the post and Michaels was substituted to ride Bill Curtis. April Shower raced Demurrer into submission and came away without much effort in the stretch run. The Guardsman, a consistent colt, stood a long drive to catch Demurrer and was easily best of the others. Demurrer displayed a fine burst of speed, but tired when sharply challenged. Dramatist met with interference on the stretch turn, but closed up fast at the end. Rough Rider was crowded back at the start. Dark Planet and Rabunta had no chance at the start. Star and Garter ran well for six furlongs. Scratched 42723JA11 Gold, 106. April Shower, show, 1 to 2. The Guardsman, show, 8 to 5. Demurrer, show, 8 to 5.
